Job Description PROGRAM SCIENTIST 3 , Nuclear Science and Engineering (NSE) , to work on MIT reactor lab experiments under radiation, high pressure and high temperature equipment, instrumentation and control, and advanced radiation resistant sensors and microscopy equipment on topics related to nuclear fission and fusion for terrestrial and space applications. Specific computational projects include fluid flow and structural analysis utilizing commercial and in-house software and cost analysis of power plant structure, systems, and components. Will act as a top-level technical contributor in one or more highly specialized functions of research noted above. Responsibilities include participating in determining the long-term strategy and financial planning/operations; serving as a key advisor to the principal investigator; initiating, formulating, directing, executing, and overseeing research and/or developing new capabilities; interfacing with internal/external collaborators to manage project deliverables; formulating and improving research methods and solutions; conducting analyses of data using specialized techniques and programming; overseeing data monitoring; reviewing and critiquing reports/analyses of other researchers; and authoring/co-authoring research results and presenting findings in publications and at seminars/conferences. Job Requirements REQUIRED : Ph.D./Sc.D. in nuclear engineering, mechanical engineering, or material engineering; seven years' related post-graduate school experience in a research environment; evidence of original or collaborative scholarship; ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively on complex research matters; experience mentoring students/researchers; and excellent written and oral communication skills. Seek a demonstrated experimentalist in the area of thermal-fluids and detection and radiation measurements. PREFERRED : established record making presentations at conferences and invited talks; experience performing heat transfer and stress analysis with commercial software; and an interest in teaching in areas of radiation protection, detection, and security.
