WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

The Gift Planning Unit at the American Red Cross seeks to secure planned gifts supporting any component of the organization’s mission and to establish the Red Cross as the charity of choice for such gifts.

This is a remote position, however you will be required to work in the Virginia/West Virginia area.

Under general guidance, develop, implement, and manage planned giving programs.  Actively cultivate and solicit new opportunities and development strategies for planned giving donors. Provide support, development and/or leadership guidance to all volunteers.

Perform all duties and responsibilities in compliance with standard operating procedures and other applicable Federal, State and local regulations.

WHERE YOUR CAREER IS A FORCE GOOD:

Manage overall gift planning strategy for complex portfolio and /or line of service needs.

Compile and analyze information about potential contributors for the development of sales strategy.

Contact potential contributors and persuade them to contribute planned gifts.

Implement and assist in the development of procedures for receiving, acknowledging and reporting planned gifts.

Implement and assist in the development of programs and marketing strategies to attract potential donors.

Scope: Individual contributor that is fully proficient in applying subject matter knowledge. Knowledge based acquired from several years of experience in particular area. Work independently and may instruct or coach other professionals.

WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED:

A Bachelor's degree in philanthropy studies, nonprofit management, law, finance, insurance, trust services, real estate, or other related field required. Certification in one or more of the following areas is preferred: CFRE, CFP, CAP, J.D., LLM

A Minimum 5 years of major gift or gift planning experience or equivalent combination of education and related experience required. Experience with gifts of assets and life income gifts including charitable gift annuities, charitable trusts, and pooled income funds is preferred. Experience promoting, managing, cultivating and soliciting such programs is highly desirable.

Knowledge of applicable principles, concepts, practices, and standards of planned giving vehicles and fundraising is desired. Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication, presentation, and negotiation skills are required.

Basic proficiency in use of Personal Computer, word-processing, spreadsheet applications, and database applications when applicable. Strong organization skills and good attention to detail are essential. Demonstrated tact and diplomacy in difficult or sensitive situations is essential.

Familiarity with the Virginia/West Virginia area is beneficial. Familiarity with Red Cross corporate culture is preferred.

Must have own transportation. Ability to work on a team.

Travel: 30% -40% business travel is required.

Combination of candidate’s education and general experience satisfies requirements so long as the total years equate to description’s minimum education and general experience years combined (Management experience cannot be substituted).

The work environment will consist of moderate noise (i.e. business office with computers, phones and printers, light traffic). The employee must have the ability to work in a small cubicle and have the ability to sit at a computer terminal for an extended period of time.
