Job Summary: One faculty position in the University of Wisconsin-Madison Department of Industrial & Systems Engineering. Applicants are expected to create, advance, and maintain a productive research program, and provide classroom and individual instruction for undergraduate and graduate degree-seeking students. In addition, candidates will support the department efforts to enhance and advance equity and inclusion in higher education through their teaching, research, and service activities, while contributing to the intellectual and academic life of the department. University and professional service will be expected as appropriate. Responsibilities: This position is part of the Wisconsin Research, Innovation and Scholarly Excellence (RISE)-Artificial Intelligence (AI) cluster hire initiative, with the candidate's tenure home in the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering. We seek candidates with research interests in enhancing human-AI interactions. Research areas of interest include, but are not limited to, (1) the attributes, requirements, and design guidelines of successful human-AI teams, (2) methods of mitigating the risk of human misuse of AI-enabled applications that lead to harmful outcomes, (3) human-centered approaches to make AI (particularly generative AI) easier to use and more reliable, (4) interdisciplinary approaches to protect and support values through technical processes and design, as well as to advance areas such as AI explainability and privacy-preserving design and analysis, and (5) understanding and optimizing human-AI interactions from a complex sociotechnical systems point of view. Candidates are encouraged to highlight the practical relevance and impact of the methodologies they developed. Appointment to this tenure-track position requires a PhD degree in Engineering or related field be received prior to the start of appointment. Associate and Full professor candidates must possess experience and scholarly credentials that meet the tenure standards of the UW-Madison Divisional Committee and of the College of Engineering.
