Mechanic (HVAC) - Facilities Planning & Management | Washington University in St. Louis - Military Veterans

Scheduled Hours 40 Position Summary With direction from the Zone Manager and Working Supervisor, the Mechanic works with a team of 10-12 multi-craft mechanics to provide routine and emergency HVAC and multi-craft maintenance for campus buildings. Additionally, the mechanic works closely with internal customers including students, faculty and staff to resolve maintenance issues and work orders. Typical craft-specific work includes, but is not limited to the inspection, troubleshooting, and repair of HVAC equipment and systems using a variety of diagnostic tools such as DDC (Johnson Controls, multi-meter, drawings, etc.). Multi-craft maintenance activities may include working with various plumbing systems, basic electrical work, paint and carpentry. This position is a member of the collective bargaining unit, Local #148 International Union of Operating Engineers, AFL-CIO. Job Description Primary Duties & Responsibilities: Maintaining, troubleshooting and repairing a variety of HVAC systems to support the teaching and research mission of the University. Repairing and maintaining fan coil units, building loops, pumps, heat exchangers and forced air components including hoods and exhaust fans (VAVs, circuit setters, and controls, etc.).  Troubleshooting HVAC controls systems with the use of our energy management system. Pro-actively identifying, communicating and addressing needs without direction when appropriate. Responding to work orders in and other requests in a timely, efficient, competent, knowledgeable and friendly manner. Performing preventative maintenance based on the building needs and individual skillset (e.g. general equipment room inspections, etc.). Maintaining data per departmental policy. Utilizing materials, supplies, tools and other University property in a safe, productive manner. Performs other duties as assigned. Benefits for this position are in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement with IUOE Local 148. Work Experience: Working In A Particular Craft Or Multi-Craft Position (5 Years) Skills: Air Handling Units, Air Systems, Attendance Management, Blueprints, Communication, Customer Service, Electrical Schematics, Exhaust, Forced Air Heating System, Heat Exchangers, Heat Pumps, HVAC Systems, Hydronic Systems, Mechanical Apptitude, Mini Split Systems, Multimeter, Physical Abilities, Roof Top Units Driver's License: A Class E (MO) or Class D (IL) license and a good driving record are required for this position.
