Department: Center for Teaching Excellence - 33200 External Link to Posting: https://jobs.uncw.edu/postings/33053 Vacancy Number: TSP5385PST Working Title: Associate Director for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) Job Title: Associate Director for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) Temp Position Type: EHRA Temporary Job Category: Academic Professionals/Non-teaching FLSA for Position: Exempt Brief Summary of Work for this Position: To advance excellence and innovation in the praxis and scholarship of effective teaching, the CTE team works together to develop, coordinate, implement, and assess high-quality educational development opportunities for instructors across various disciplines and career stages. This position focuses on the units mission by advancing high-quality scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL) primarily through journal editorship and providing direct support to faculty through programming, consultation, and resource development. Upon initial appointment, the primary responsibilities of the associate director for the scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL) are in the following areas and outlined as follows: Journal Editorship: Serve as the lead managing editor for the Journal of Effective Teaching in Higher Education (JETHE) Programming and Supports: Design and facilitate high-quality SoTL programming (e.g., workshops, unit in-services, cohort-based learning, self-paced programming) and supports (e.g., SoTL writing circle) for faculty across various disciplines and career stages Consultation: Provide individual consultation to faculty in support of SoTL project development, implementation, assessment, and publication Collaboration: Collaborate with key stakeholders to develop and offer initiatives and recognitions to advance high-quality SoTL Collaboration and Unit Representation: Collaborate regularly with the CTE team (e.g., engage in team meetings and retreats, co-facilitate CTE advisory board meetings and flagship events) and champion the unit on campus (e.g., collaboration with academic partners, tabling, university service) Resource Development: Develop SoTL resources (e.g., guides, SoTL scholars directory, Canvas material) Professional Development: Engage in continued professional development to broaden the breadth and depth of SoTL expertise within the unit. This position reports to the director of the Center for Teaching Excellence. In accordance with job responsibilities, workload deliverables will be identified through a work plan established with the director. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements: Full-time faculty holding a doctorate from an accredited institution 3 years (minimum) teaching experience in higher education Demonstrated record of an active program of research, including engagement in SoTL Demonstrated detail-oriented approach and excellent communication, organizational, and critical thinking skills Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience: Previous service as an academic journal editor, member of an editorial board, and/or reviewer Scholarship mentorship or experience facilitating educational development related to SoTL for faculty, graduate students, or others in the higher education context Completion of specific training, academic coursework, and/or other experience relevant to SoTL Record of participation in educational development focused on SoTL Demonstrated familiarity with quantitative and/or qualitative methods and data analysis software Demonstrated ability to work with interdisciplinary academic groups Required Certifications or Licensure: Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit: Eligibility for Employment: College/School Information: Work Hours: Minimum of 16 and up to 20 hours Work Days: TBD Hours Per Week: TBD Type of Position: Part Time Anticipated Hiring Range: Special Instructions to Applicants: Please note, this is a temporary position with a contract.Eligibilty: To apply you must be a full-time UNCW teaching faculty who holds a Doctorate.Length of Assignment: Initial appointment will be January 2025 - May 2026.Compensation: 2 course buyouts per semester with the potential for a stipend OR 5 course buyouts over the entire Academic Year, dependent upon # of hours worked.Additional: This position also requires a commitment to work 20 hours per week during either Summer 1 or Summer 2 based on the needs of the department.
