Position Description
The Industrial and Systems Engineering Department at San José State University (SJSU), invite applications for two tenure-track/tenured positions at the assistant/associate/full professor rank. The department is recruiting in machine learning and data analytics as applied to Industrial and Systems Engineering and human factors/User Experience (UX) as related to systems engineering. It is preferred that the candidates research area addresses either the domain of Human-Robotic Technology Relations and/or Health Equity and Health Infrastructures, Sustainable Futures, Data Analytics and Design Thinking, Supply Chains and Transportation, or Digital Manfacturing but all domain areas of Industrial and Systems Engineering will be considered.
The Industrial and Systems Engineering Department (ISE) at SJSU has established a firm goal to provide a high-quality education to its students at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. The Department offers classroom instruction by the best-qualified faculty, hands-on experience in industry-sponsored state-of-the-art laboratories, and opportunities for industry internships. The Department has approximately 150 undergraduate and 300 graduate students.
Students in Industrial and Systems degree programs learn through our hands-on and practice-oriented curricula to prepare for professional careers in subject areas such as: supply chain, operations research and data analytics, engineering management, human factors, and quality engineering. They have opportunities to work with ISE faculty and industry sponsors to design and tests processes and systems in their capstone project experiences. Required Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Industrial and Systems Engineering or a related field
- Record of scholarly activity
- Demonstrated ability or potential to teach undergraduate and graduate students effectively
- Applicants should demonstrate an awareness of and sensitivity to the educational goals of a multicultural population as might have been gained in cross-cultural study, training, teaching and other comparable experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Teach in the undergraduate and graduate programs,
- Provide leadership for the department’s graduate programs in Engineering Management, Industrial and Systems Engineering, or Human Factors,
- Advise students including master’s projects and theses, and developing a research program related to his/her field of interest.
- Participate in strengthening the present ties between the ISE Department and its surrounding high-tech industries and will embark on establishing new connections with high tech companies.
- Participate in department and college committee assignments and in other activities that connect the ISE Department to the College of Engineering and the rest of the campus.
- The candidate will participate in shared governance, usually in department, college, and university committees and other service assignments.
- Faculty shall organize all their classes within the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS).
- The candidate must demonstrate awareness and experience understanding the needs of a student population of great diversity – in age, abilities, cultural background, ethnicity, religion, economic background, primary language, sexual orientation, gender identity, and academic preparation – through inclusive course materials, teaching strategies and advisement.
Other Duties
Note that all San José State University employees are considered mandated reporters under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and are required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment. Pursuant to the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act) and CSU systemwide policy, some faculty duties may lead to designation as a Campus Security Authority (CSA). CSAs are required to complete Clery Act training and to immediately report Clery incidents to the institution.
Faculty employees must complete CSU employee training as assigned and required based on their role (e.g., Data Security, FERPA, Preventing Discrimination and Harassment, Title IX, Health and Safety). The President may recommend or require compliance with safety measures that decrease the likelihood of COVID-19 transmission or illness and allows the core mission and activities of the campus to continue.
