Who will you be working with?

The Project Buyer will be working with the sourcing group at the WPT Duncan SC site. The position will have peers at the regional and global levels. The work environment is project oriented and in a production environment that is low volume and high mix. The project sourcing scope starts just before bid and proposal and goes through the start of production with support as necessary for warranty and aftermarket/field service activities.

How will you make a difference?

The Project Buyer will update and perform report in or out duties for Key Performance Indicator tracking, improve project contract margin via RFI/RFQ, supplier selection, contracting and supplier management in project savings opportunities and risk mitigation. You will add value to the company through material and service cost savings and ensuring supplier quality and on-time delivery during the course of their assigned projects.

What do we want to know about you?


  • High school graduate or General Education Degree required.

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Operations, Economics or Finance preferred.

  • C.P.M. or CPSM through the Institute for Supply Management (ISM) preferred.

  • CPIM or CSCP through the Association for Supply Chain Management (ASCM) preferred.

  • Four to six years manufacturing, transportation or heavy construction industry experience.

  • Two to four years project purchasing experience.

  • Ability to work unsupervised.

  • Ability to work on, and manage, cross functional teams.

  • Ability to present information clearly and tailor it for a variety of audiences.

  • Strategic and creative thinking to analyze issues that may arise and create solutions.

  • Ability to respond positively to feedback and recommend changes in process and procedures as needed.

  • Familiarity with the Uniform Commercial Code (UCC), import and export laws, incoterms, exchange rates and methodologies used in project management, material planning and quality.

  • Ability to use a personal computer and standard Microsoft Office software at an intermediate level (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).

  • Familiarity with large ERP systems (Oracle, JD Edwards, SAP, Baan).

  • Familiarity with ERP report out software/tools (Crystal reports, Power BI).

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple issues at once.

  • Ability to communicate with internal and external parties with tact and diplomacy.

  • Ability to work in an ISO/IRIS quality system environment.


What will your typical day look like?

From bid and proposal to start of production on assigned projects, guarantee supplier quality, cost control, delivery and fulfilment of project needs.

Bid Sourcing Activities

  • Define bid bill of materials and be involved upstream and launch studies and price estimation during bid and proposal phase.

  • Prepare flow down clauses for RFQ's.

  • Review the company's Supplier Panel/Approved Supplier List for suitability to the project.

  • Investigate and onboard new suppliers as needed.


Project Contract Margin Activities

  • Challenge the bill of material in order to propose price and cost reductions.

  • Promote the use of standard products where and when appropriate.

  • Integrate aftermarket and field service needs (e.g., no private label products, performance expectations and price for spare parts).

  • Align with global and regional commodity strategies.

  • Launch RFQ's on selected Supplier Panel/Approved Supplier List, manage negotiations, inform regional and global commodity managers and request their support when needed.

  • Evaluate offers and select the supplier with approval of supplier quality, project manager, regional and/or global commodity manager and inform engineering, supply chain and aftermarket/field services.

  • Work within the delegation of authority structure for purchase orders and other department contracting tools that can bind the company.

  • Enter sourcing rules/parameters in the ERP system.

  • Manage the project's suppliers and their quality, cost and delivery improvement action plan.

  • Utilize backward planning management to determine risks and opportunities and long lead time materials, set up the material delivery plan with supply chain and assist with bill of material follow-up.

  • Improve total cost of ownership by enabling sourcing in best cost countries and liaise with the appropriate regional and/or global sourcing commodity teams.

  • While in scope, manage and control changes for the project (e.g., engineering change requests, price increase notices, supplier contract modifications, invoice discrepancies, supplier charge backs, lead time changes, etc.).

  • Perform supplier rationalization activities as needed.


Deploy APQP/PPAP

  • Initiate company's standard APQP/PPAP process with the help of supplier quality engineers.

  • While in scope, organize and manage technical reviews for assigned projects with technology partners, supplier quality, engineering and supply chain in order to formalize the team feasibility commitment at supplier selection and guarantee the achievement of a project's technical specifications.

  • Manage the transition from project to production phase with internal departments.

  • Participate proactively in improving the Sourcing Group's performance.

  • Participate in Sourcing Group metric reporting.
