The University of California, Riverside's (UCR) Marlan and Rosemary Bourns College of Engineering (BCOE) invites applicants for a tenured Full Professor level or, for distinguished applicants, above scale, who will serve as the Director of the BCOE Winston Chung Global Energy Center (WCGEC). The candidate is expected to initiate and sustain a strong sponsored research, teaching, and graduate training program, as well as serve as director. WCGEC is a multi-disciplinary research center focusing on the broad area of energy and sustainability. It was established in January 2011 with a $10 million cash donation by Winston Chung, a Chinese battery technology scientist, inventor, and entrepreneur. The gift was later augmented with an additional $5 million to establish a Sustainable Integrated Grid Initiative (SIGI) as part of WCGEC to demonstrate "smart integration" of battery technologies, renewable energy, and advanced dispatch controls through field implementations at UCR. The current programs of WCGEC, as detailed at http://www.wcgec.ucr.edu/ , cover Energy and Power Systems (Area 1) and Energy Devices and Materials (Area 2). In Area 1, the focus is on related topics such as the integration of distributed and renewable energy resources, power distribution system and power transmission system modernization, power system protection, advanced power electronics, cyber and physical security in power systems, etc. In Area 2, the focus is on related topics such as advanced and scalable battery technologies, fuel cells, supercapacitors, solar cells, solar thermal, etc. The successful candidate will demonstrate clear potential to lead the overall integrated multidisciplinary research efforts within the center both across Area 1 and Area 2, in collaborative partnership with the related BCOE departments and programs: Electrical and Computer Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical and Environmental Engineering, and Computer Science and Engineering. Review of applications will begin immediately and the search will continue until the position is filled. For full consideration, candidates are highly encouraged to apply by March 8, 2024. To Apply: Please submit a cover letter, current curriculum vitae, contact information for three references (minimum of three with an option of five references), a Statement of Research, a Statement of Leadership, a Statement of Teaching, and a Contribution to Diversity Statement to the AP recruit website at https://aprecruit.ucr.edu/JPF01865 . See Table(s) 3. The salary range for this position is $134,000 - $215,800.
