School of Medicine Director of Clinical Faculty Research Development and Scholarly Activities Open Faculty Position Associate, or Full Professor Rank The University of California, Riverside (UCR) School of Medicine invites applications for the position of Director of Clinical Faculty Research Development and Scholarly Activities. Reporting to the Associate Dean of Clinical Research and collaborating with the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, this position provides oversight and support for the clinical faculty research development and scholarly activities in the medical school. Essential functions include: Review existing research/scholarly programs in Clinical Departments. Track and maintain the database of faculty scholarly activities. Develop and monitor new research programs in Clinical Departments. Develop interdepartmental programs to bridge the gap between basic sciences and clinical sciences. Serve as content expert on definable, measurable, and trackable program outcome measures. Consult on and assist with analysis of health services utilization data, clinical program, and clinical trial data. In collaboration with Department Chairs at SOM, Directors of Centers and affiliated clinical sites, review and develop roadmap for enhancing scholarly activities in clinical departments. In collaboration with other colleges at UCR and other UCs, coordinate the submission of inter- campus extramural grant proposals, and collaboration for multi-campus initiatives. Develop and implement an effective developmental assessment system within each program and the appropriate assessment tools including oversight of the quality of research programs. Document program outcomes, and faculty scholarly accomplishments. Work with the Associate Dean for Clinical Research in using a continuous improvement approach in optimizing the quality of the research programs. Collaborate with the Associate Dean for Clinical Research, Associate Dean for Biomedical Sciences Research and Associate Dean for Academic Affairs on promoting scholarly work in the basic, clinical, population health and behavioral sciences when addressing health issues. Plan and teach faculty and staff development workshops related to research strategies and measuring outcomes. Develop writing retreats and informal workshops to increase dissemination for peer reviewed journals and production of materials for the general public. Grant applications: Work with PIs and teams to develop study designs and associated statistical, qualitative, and mixed methods analyses for grant proposals as needed. Design support structure for the development of grant applications, including ad hoc convening of faculty to facilitate generation of design planning and collaboration. Consultation on unfunded projects and papers; Support postdocs, residents, clinical faculty/program directors by providing support and consultation in database design, survey design, measure selection, quantitative, qualitative and mixed methods. Other duties as assigned. Founded in 2013, the School of Medicine at UCR is the sixth University of California Medical School. The successful applicant must qualify for an academic appointment in a Professor (Ladder Rank), Professor of Clinical X, or Health Sciences Clinical series at the associate or full professor rank. The successful candidate must possess an EdD, PhD, or MD degree. Expertise in the development of research programs, implementation, assessment and tracking program evaluation; developing databases to track faculty development and faculty scholarly activities. The successful candidate should have background/experience with grant writing, multidisciplinary research, and scholarly projects, as well as statistical, both quantitative and qualitative analysis to assist with research activities. Additional qualifications include the demonstration of outstanding academic accomplishments, organized and detail- oriented approach, collaborative approach to leadership, passion for and commitment to promoting research, and minimum of 5-year experience working with faculty. The incumbent will have a concurrent academic appointment in an appropriate clinical department and is expected to participate in teaching, service, and research, or scholarly activities. Series and rank will be determined based on qualifications and experience. Finally, the candidate must demonstrate commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
