Position Title: Adjunct Instructor 1 - Early childhood (birth to 5 years), Elementary, or Secondary Education Location: Multiple Locations Department: 33700 - Teacher Education Advertised Salary: Salary commensurate with qualifications pursuant to the FSU and FNTFO/AFT Agreement FLSA: Exempt Temporary/Continuing: Temporary Part-Time/Full-Time: Part-Time Union Group: Ferris Nontenure-Track Faculty Organization (FNTFO) (AFT) Term of Position: As Needed At Will/Just Cause: Just Cause Summary of Position: The School of Education seeks candidates to teach on a semester-by-semester, as needed basis, in the areas of Early childhood (birth to 5 years), elementary education, and secondary education at one of Ferris State University's campuses. Candidates must be available to teach face-to-face and synchronous on-line courses during the hours of 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays, some evenings may be required. This is a pooled position. One or more applicants may be hired as needed to teach classes on a semester-by-semester basis. This posting is used for face to face and/or online instruction. For in-person or hybrid teaching positions, candidates must reside in Michigan after acceptance of employment. Courses are to be taught in person on one of Ferris State Universitys campuses. The candidate(s) selected for the position must reside in Michigan after acceptance of employment. For courses that are taught 100% online, the candidate(s) selected for the position must reside in Michigan, Illinois (excluding Chicago), Indiana, Kentucky, Minnesota, Ohio, or Wisconsin after acceptance of employment. Position Type: Faculty - Temporary & Continuing Required Education: Masters degree in Early Childhood Education or Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction or related field. Required Work Experience: 3 years of experience at the appropriate age level- birth- 5 and/or K-12 grades. Required Licenses and Certifications: Physical Demands: Office Environment Bending Carrying Moving Reaching Sitting Twisting Repetitive movement Standing Additional Education/Experiences to be Considered: PhD. or Ed.D. in Education or a closely related field. Previous experience teaching at the college level. Essential Duties/Responsibilities: Teach assigned courses in early childhood, elementary, or secondary education. Provide up-to-date coursework and course-related materials. Maintain a safe and engaging learning environment. Keep office hours at times convenient for students. Meet with classes at their scheduled times. Effective teaching by way of good communication, assessment of student learning, and adaptation to various levels of student preparation. Carry out teaching and professional development responsibilities under the supervision of the Chair of the School of Education and the Dean of the College of Arts, Sciences and Education (or their designee). Responsibilities include maintaining the confidentiality of designated information and performing duties in compliance with applicable policies and procedures. Faculty members also have professional responsibilities which may include but are not limited to: keeping regular posted office hours (which are scheduled at times convenient for students), and participation in traditional functions which have academic significance (ex. reporting initial student participation data and submitting final grades on time). Faculty members may be required to teach off-campus or in an on-line environment. Demonstrates an understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion, especially in working relationships with students, faculty, staff and community members. Support, promote, and develop University student enrollment and retention initiatives. Any other duties assigned within the position classification area. Certification (OPTIONAL): Applicants must attach a copy of their Elementary teaching certification if applicable. The anticipated start date of this position is August 2024 at the earliest and January 2025 at the latest.
