Position Title: Assistant Professor Surveying Engineering Location: Big Rapids (Main Campus) Department: 38340 - Surveying Engineering Advertised Salary: $75,000 - $85,000. Salary commensurate with education, experiences, and other requirements. Comprehensive benefit package (health care, vacation, etc.) FLSA: Exempt Temporary/Continuing: Continuing Part-Time/Full-Time: Full-Time Union Group: Ferris Faculty Association (MEA-NEA) Term of Position: 9 Month At Will/Just Cause: Just Cause Summary of Position: Position responsibilities will include teaching A.A.S. and B.S. courses in an accredited surveying engineering program. Courses may include topics such as GIS, photogrammetry, surveying principles and adjustments, etc. Student advising will also be required along with the ability to develop on-line courses and to work with fellow faculty members in the advancement of the Surveying curriculum. The anticipated start date of this position is August 2024 at the earliest and January 2025 at the latest. Position Type: Faculty - Temporary & Continuing Required Education: 1. Masters degree in field or closely related field and 5 years of relevant industry experience directly related to courses taught OR 2. A masters or higher-level degree out of field with at least one bachelors or associates degree in field and 5 years of relevant industry experience directly related to courses taught OR 3. A bachelors degree in field and 7 years of relevant industry experience directly related to courses taught with the ability to obtain a Masters degree within 5 years of the date of hire. Required Work Experience: Required work experience related to education requirements. See Required Education Required Licenses and Certifications: Professional Surveyors License (current or expired but not revoked) Physical Demands: Office Environment Bending Carrying Moving Reaching Sitting Twisting Lifting Pulling/Pushing Standing Additional Education/Experiences to be Considered: Essential Duties/Responsibilities: The primary professional responsibilities are teaching and the provision of counseling, library, and other educational services. Teaching lower and upper division courses in surveying such as GIS, photogrammetry and surveying principles and adjustments. May be required to teach evenings, off-campus, or on-line. Hold weekly office hours. Maintain professional currency. Professional involvement at local, state, and national levels. Act as liaison between the program and professional organizations. Directly responsible to the School Director. Perform duties in accordance with established University policies. Faculty members also have professional responsibilities which may include advising students, orientation and registration of students, participation in university committees, keeping regular posted office hours (which are scheduled at times convenient for students), and participation in traditional functions which have academic significance (ex. reporting initial student participation data and submitting final grades on time). Faculty members may be required to teach off-campus or in an on-line environment. Demonstrates an understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion, especially in working relationships with students, faculty, staff and community members. Any other duties assigned within the position classification area. Marginal Duties/Responsibilities: Ability to develop on-line curriculum. Ability to work as a member of a team. Excellent interpersonal and communications skills. Technically competent in the use of computers and high-level programming languages and the use of GIS and digital photogrammetric software, and surveying instruments. Able to use GIS software (ArcPRO, QGIS), use of Matlab/Octave, drone processing software like PixElement, Pix4d, image processing software like iWitness A drone Pilot Certification or the ability to obtain one would be beneficial in the instruction for certain courses within Surveying. Use of GPS equipment and surveying total stations Skills and Abilities: Demonstrated commitment, experience and understanding for diversity, equity, and inclusion.
