Interim Staff Counselor Curry College is seeking an experienced, licensed mental health clinician to serve as an Interim Staff Counselor for the 2024-25 Academic Year, with the possibility of extension into a full-time role. The Staff Counselor is a full-time generalist position in the Counseling Center. This position provides culturally competent clinical services and mental health care to meet the needs of the college's diverse student population. The Staff Counselor will promote and support the philosophy, policies, and procedures of the Counseling Center that incorporate equity, anti-oppression work, and social justice principles that support student wellbeing. The Staff Counselor must work within their scope of clinical training, experience and ethical standards of professional practice. In addition, the Staff Counselor assists in other related tasks vital to the department's operation, including developing and delivering campus communications or presentations, outreach programming to campus partners and students, and providing consultations to students and key campus partners, as well as other duties as assigned. Essential Functions: 1. Direct Care/Counseling & Clinical Services: Provides direct counseling services to the student population, including short-term individual/group counseling; crisis assessment and intervention; professional consultation to faculty, staff, and students; Maintains a clinical caseload as assigned by the Director, in concert with the Department's needs and scope of practice; Makes appropriate referrals to community service providers, for specialized evaluation, medication, neuro-psychological testing and/or more intensive counseling services when clinically indicated (e.g., partial hospital, inpatient psychiatric care); Provides informational sessions to student groups and/or classes about available services and relevant mental health topics as assigned; Participates in and/or creates training modules for campus partners as assigned by the Director (e.g., training for Resident Assistants and Orientation Leaders about assisting students in crisis); Plans and participates in psycho-educational outreach events and activities to the student community; May work some evenings or a staggered schedule to facilitate Center staffing coverage and major college events (e.g., Accepted Student's Day, Commencement). 2. Consultation Functions: Provides consultation to students, parents, faculty and staff on topics within his/her professional scope of training and expertise; Consults with health care and treatment providers, when service needs are outside of the Staff Counselor's scope of training and expertise; Consults with collateral providers as a means of enhancing clinical services, determining appropriateness of services, and to involve other providers when clinically indicated; Consults with the Director in a timely fashion about clinical activities and needs, including high risk situations to help promote student mental health and safety; Participates in assigned departmental rotation of after-hours clinical on-call consultation to campus partners in relation to students who are experiencing a psychological crisis when the Counseling Center is closed. 3. Record Keeping/Clinical Documentation Functions: Maintains daily schedule and client records in EMR or designated documentation system(s); Maintains client confidentiality per department policies and procedures. 4. Supervision & Training Functions: Receives and participates in regular clinical supervision from the Director during which case assignments, treatment progress and student mental health needs are reviewed to ensure service delivery is consistent with the scope of practice within the Department; Assists the Director with clinical training and/or supervision of clinical intern trainees on individual cases, outreach and training activities at the Counseling Center, as assigned. 5. Administrative Support & Professional Standards: Participates in campus committees as assigned; Provides informational and/or relevant statistical reports (e.g., may assist with quarterly, annual or other department related reports); Provides research and clinical training material as assigned; Maintains professional knowledge by attending appropriate clinical in-service training(s) in the field of college mental health and other related topics; Maintains state licensure by attending relevant continuing education programs/workshops; Other duties as assigned by supervisor. Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications: A minimum of a master's degree in counseling psychology, social work or a related field. Must have at least three years of college mental health experience, or other relevant clinical experience. Must be clinically licensed in MA. Must be capable of using a computer for daily clinical documentation and scheduling purposes. Preferred Qualifications: Solid team player with good communication skills. Ability to build collegial relationships with campus and community partners to facilitate service delivery. Ability to keep up with the fast pace of the Center and maintain timely clinical documentation. Ability and flexibility to individualize evaluation and treatment needs of students at the College. Has prior knowledge of HIPAA standards. Multicultural competence. Has prior knowledge of learning disabilities and working with neurodiverse students.
