Collection Strategist, Science and Social Science | Yale University - Military Veterans

  1. Monitors and manages science and social science collection development funds (annual budget over $6 million) under the direction of the Head of Collection Strategy. In consultation with the Director of Research Support and Outreach Programs and subject librarians at the Marx Library, administers and coordinates the selection and renewal of materials in the sciences and social sciences including subject approval plans.2. Crafts and implements strategies for collection development and management activities in support of the sciences, social sciences, and data science.3. Collaborates with science, social science, and data librarians to develop data acquisition and management strategies. Monitors and manages data acquisition funds. 4. Collaborates with librarians at the Marx Library to understand, document, and analyze collection practices and partners with them to enhance collection skills and engage them in a holistic approach to developing and managing collections in their areas.5. Advises and consults with the Head of Collection Strategy in matters related to the collections budget.6. Contributes to the development of YUL policies and guidelines related to collection development and management and scholarly communication.7.Coordinates with other library departments to strengthen and expand interdisciplinary collection development.8. Contributes to developing a strategy and methodology for the library's investment in open scholarship.9. Serves as the primary reviewer for science, social science, and data licenses; may review other licenses as needed. Required Skill/ability 1: Demonstrated ability in collection development and knowledge of scholarly publishing practices and trends relevant to the sciences and social sciences. Required Skill/ability 2: Demonstrated ability to manage budgets. Demonstrated ability to design and manage projects, bringing them to a successful conclusion. Required Skill/ability 3: Familiarity with the acquisition and licensing of science and social science datasets. Required Skill/ability 4: Excellent analytical skills. Demonstrated proficiency in Excel. Experience using quantitative and/or qualitative data to inform decision-making. Required Skill/ability 5: Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to work collaboratively across organizational units. Experience providing training and creating documentation. Experience with vendor relations and communications. Preferred Education: Experience reading, interpreting, and negotiating license agreements. Bachelor's or advanced degree in the social sciences or sciences or experience working with social science and science collections. Work Week: Standard (M-F equal number of hours per day) Posting Position Title: Librarian, Collection Strategist for Science and Social Science University Job Title: Collection Strategist, Science and Social Science Preferred Education, Experience and Skills: Experience reading, interpreting, and negotiating license agreements. Bachelor's or advanced degree in the social sciences or sciences or experience working with social science and science collections. Master's degree in Library Science from an American Library Association accredited Library school and three years of related experience. In selected instances, a post-graduate degree in a related discipline may be required or substituted for an MLS.
