About the College

Based on the Carnegie Foundation Classification System, The University of Cincinnati (www.uc.edu) is a Doctoral Granting Research University with very high research activity (RU/VH). Located in Cincinnati, Ohio, it is part of Ohio's higher education system with over 50,000 students in attendance. The Counseling Program is situated within the School of Human Services in the College of Education, Criminal Justice, Human Services, and Information Technology. The School also includes undergraduate and graduate programs in Behavior Analysis, School Psychology, Exercise Science, Health Promotion and Education, Substance Abuse Counseling, and Sport Administration. The School is a leader in online course and program development, and there are many active collaborative activities across programs and with community partners. The Counseling Program offers B.S., M.A., M.Ed., and Ph.D. degrees. The Graduate Programs are CACREP-accredited.

Job Overview

The University of Cincinnati is currently accepting applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Mental Health Counseling. The successful applicant will be expected to further the Program and University's excellence in research and teaching.

Essential Functions

• Conducting scholarly research, publishing research, presenting research at conferences, and obtaining external funding (e.g., grant writing)
• Teaching graduate (masters and doctoral) coursework in mental health counseling and the counseling core (e.g., ethics, theories, etc.), which will typically include two classes per semester
• Demonstrating cultural competence in teaching, research, and clinical practice
• Supervising student field experiences aligned with the Counseling Program's ecological model and wellness-oriented approach to practice
• Advising graduate students, guiding dissertation research, and serving on doctoral committees
• Collaborating with area partners, behavioral health agencies, and integrated practices to support student field experiences and for research
• Provide leadership and coordination within the Mental Health Counseling track with responsibilities including but not limited to coordinating student support efforts, admissions, and program reporting for accreditation
• Engaging in university, professional, and community service, including but not limited to serving on search committees, scholarship review committees, reappointment, promotion, and tenure review committees, peer reviewing for journals, service on workgroups of professional organizations

Minimum Requirements

Prior to first date of appointment, candidates must have all of the following:

• Doctorate in Counselor Education and Supervision from a CACREP-accredited program.
• Evidence of a program of scholarly research in counseling consistent with a wellness-oriented perspective, as described in your research agenda and demonstrated by one peer-reviewed publication as well as one other work in progress.
• Experience teaching one course in general counseling or within the mental health counseling specialty as either a lead instructor or teaching assistant.
• Two years of professional work experience implementing evidence-based practice in mental health counseling.
