Internal Job Number: P08379UF Description: The Department of Food Science & Technology is seeking a Dairy Pilot Plant Manager. This is a full-time (1.00 FTE ), 12-month, professional faculty position. The OSU Dairy Pilot Plant is an essential component of the overall OSU dairy foods program within the Department of Food Science & Technology. The pilot plant is utilized for industry innovation trials, OSU dairy processing courses, FST graduate and undergraduate research activities, dairy extension courses, production of Beaver Classic cheese and ice cream, and serves as an incubator facility for dairy entrepreneurs. This position schedules and manages all activities within the newly renovated dairy plant. This includes implementing and following safe dairy processing procedures and compliance with state and federal licenses and regulations. The position continues to elevate and expand the dairy plant to become a showcase for Smart Manufacturing and for cross training of food science and engineering students. The position maintains strong connections with the regional dairy industry and supports industry where possible. Two years' supervisory experience. Two years' experience in farm/facility operations. Requirements : Bachelor's degree in Food or Dairy Science, or a related field AND 3 years' experience within dairy processing industry OR an appropriate and equivalent combination of education, training, skills, and professional experience in dairy processing. Practical experience operating, maintaining, assembling dairy or food processing equipment. Experience working in a processing setting that adheres to safe dairy or food processing. Understands food safety regulations applicable to cheese and ice cream processing. Experience developing and implementing Food Safety plan and written procedures. Experience with adhering to budgets and familiar with basic accounting. A demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity. Demonstrated ability to communicate and work effectively with varied audiences such as faculty, students, industry, and clientele in a team environment. Record of actively contributing to a respectful, safe, and inclusive work environment. Experience with supervision of employees. Currently possess or have ability to obtain HTST Pasteurization Operator License within 90 days of hire. This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per University Standard: 05-010 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months. This position requires driving a university vehicle or a personal vehicle on behalf of the university; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a motor vehicle history check, possess and maintain a current, valid driver's license in their state of residence, be determined to be position qualified and self-report convictions as per University Policy 05- 030. Type: Working in the research and teaching dairy pilot plant will require physical work. This position will be required to lift, carry, and transport 40lbs. Position requires availability to work a varied schedule and beyond normal business hours as needed. Position will occasionally travel. Additional Salary Information: $60,288 - $76,008
