Legal Counsel - ESG - Military Veterans

Job Summary
Medline is seeking an experienced attorney to perform a variety of legal services across Medline's business. This role will primarily be focused on compliance and regulatory counseling, corporate governance initiatives, and enterprise risk assessment.
This is a hybrid role based out of our headquarters in Northfield, IL. Hybrid schedule is Tuesday-Thursday in office.

Job Description

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

-Provide advice and support on regulatory matters related to environmental, social and governance, ESG, issues, with particular focus on environmental compliance for the company's operations, value chain, and extensive product portfolio.

-Support the Corporate ESG team, the corporate Legal team, and their global counterparts in strategy development, risk analysis and change management, especially relating to integrating global regulatory compliance and reporting priorities into a cohesive sustainability strategy.

-Collaborate with global cross-functional teams, including leaders from ESG, Quality Assurance, Regulatory Affairs, Trade Compliance, Government Affairs and other areas of the business to ensure global alignment.

-Support global enterprise risk management processes for ESG, Quality Assurance, Regulatory Affairs, and other corporate functions as needed.

-Monitor and interpret changes in the global regulatory environment, advising the company on relevant developments, recommend strategies and necessary actions.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education

Juris Doctor degree.

Certification / Licensure

Member of a state bar in good standing.

Work Experience

4 or more years of post-law school experience at a law firm or corporation.

At least 1 year of post-law school experience related to environmental regulation, ESG, or sustainability.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Experience diagnosing complex regulatory issues and recommending and implementing problem solving strategies to a non-legal audience.

Management skills such as prioritizing, organizing and tracking strategies and task-level details of multiple projects with varying completion dates.

Knowledge of relevant ESG and sustainability laws and regulations.

This includes implementing across-the-board fuel and emissions-reduction standards and practices: utilizing Dynamic Route Planning to reduce miles and improve trailer utilization; purchasing the most efficient diesel-fueled trucks; and incentivizing all drivers to avoid hard stops, heavy acceleration, high speeds and long periods of idling. Medline also has served as an Environmental Protection Agency SmartWay® Transport partner for the past 10 years, tracking and sharing information on the company’s fuel use and freight emissions.
