JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for pulling surgical instrumentation and supplies for patient/procedure-specific surgical cases. The OR Case Cart tech functions in the surgical scrub role for operative and invasive procedures and performs all related duties as needed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Other duties may be assigned.

  • Communicates regularly with the Sterile Processing and operating room staff to ensure that proper instruments for each case are picked and delivered as needed.

  • Completes surgical case staging activities.

  • Conducts case cart and instrument return and restocking activities.

  • Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.

  • Maintains adequate knowledge of surgical procedures, supplies, ordering and product placement.

  • Participates in multidisciplinary quality and service improvement teams as appropriate. Participates in meetings, serves on committees and represents the department and hospital/facility in community outreach efforts as appropriate.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency; supports department-based goals which contribute to the success of the NCH organization.

  • Responsible for preparing complete case carts from preference cards for patient/procedure-specific surgical cases, including add on case carts according to departmental standards to the SPD and Operating Room.

  • Restocks instruments in designated areas utilizing inventory control methods.

  • Tracks and monitors availability of instruments for procedures in collaboration with the members of the SPD/OR Team throughout the day.

  • Notifies vendors for special tray requests.


• Maintains asepsis in surgical suite. Observes all members of surgical team for breaks in technique.

• Tracks implants and handles equipment per manufactures guidelines.

• Identifies opportunities to reduce waste and expense.

• Efficiently uses time in setting up and turning over room.

• Has the ability to scrub all cases in all services efficiently.

• Demonstrates flexibility with assignments to benefit, entice or flow.

• Demonstrates effective teaching skills with good communication and standards of behavior compliance.

• Can demonstrate, educate, and measure competency on specialty equipment within service specialty.

• Restocks supplies in the department as needed.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

• Minimum of High School or GED required.

• Graduate of accredited program for Surgical Technologist.

• National certification or certification eligible.

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.

• Previous experience in Sterile Processing, Operating room or Perioperative environment preferred.

• CST (Preferred).

• Sterile Processing Certification preferred (HSPA, CBSPD).

• Good communication skills.

• Intermediate computer knowledge: Uses Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Windows
