The University of Chicago's Department of Medicine, Section of Hematology/Oncology, invites applications from MD (or foreign equivalent) physician-scientists who aspire to conduct independent research in an academic faculty position. Each Pathways to Independence Instructor will conduct a program of mentored research based on qualifications, training, academic interests, and mentor. Appointment will be made at the faculty rank of Instructor for up to two years for the initial appointment and for no more than four years total. Appointees will be encouraged to apply for national career development awards. Appointees are eligible to become Elwood V. Jensen Scholars, who receive additional salary and research seed support for research that informs innovations in cancer prevention, diagnosis, and treatment. The Jensen Scholars program is designed to grow the next generation of leaders in oncology research. Prior to the start of employment, qualified applicants must have completed clinical training, be board eligible/board certified in their field, hold a permanent Illinois medical license, and have been granted University of Chicago Medical Center medical staff privileges. Physician-scientists typically will have at least 75% protected time for research for the duration of the appointment.
