Adjunct Faculty English | Massbay Community College - Military Veterans

MassBay Community College is seeking a part-time Englishfaculty member to join the Division of Humanities and Social Sciences. Thisposition includes teaching a variety of in-person, first-year writing courses, including English Composition I and English Composition II. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a passion forteaching and promoting success among a diverse student population and becommitted to the following college-wide goals: fostering a learner-centered environment that reflects best practices,establishing rigorous curricula and relevant programs of study to promotestudent success, and cultivating a culture of civility, collaboration,inclusion, and respect for individual differences and perspectives. Faculty areresponsible for developing educational and evaluation materials consistent withthe philosophy and framework of the program, MassBay Community College, and, ifapplicable, accreditation, licensure, and specialty requirements, and for maintainingcurrent expertise in the discipline. KeyResponsibilities and Duties: Teach in-person, first-year writing courses on Wellesley Hills, Framingham, or Ashland campuses, as assigned; Prepare syllabi and develop curricula to address course and program requirements and student learning outcomes for Graduation Competencies as appropriate; Use technology effectively to communicate with students and colleagues and to enhance classroom learning as appropriate; Engage in professional development activities to maintain excellence in the discipline and the classroom. Commitmentto Equity: Support MassBay's commitment to the Equity Agenda; Collaborate with faculty, staff, and students on the College's strategic initiatives dedicated to closing the equity gap related to student outcomes; Support MassBay's commitment to being anti-racist; embracing a community free of bias and inequality; Contribute to discussion and review of applicable College policies with a critical lens toward diversity, equity and inclusion; Engage with the Office of Diversity on issues related to underserved student success; Further the examination of pertinent practices that are culturally responsive and reflective of inclusive perspectives; Engage in conversations with colleagues and students regarding best practices within the discipline or programmatic related to equity and inclusion. Required Qualifications: Master's degree in English or a related field; A minimum of two years of full-time teaching experience, or the equivalent part-time experience, teaching writing; Excellent written and oral communication skills; Demonstrated ability to use information technology effectively. Preferred Qualifications: Sensitivity and commitment to the goals of Affirmative Action and workforce diversity; Experience working in a diverse environment; Demonstrated commitment to working with underserved students; Community College teaching experience strongly preferred; Demonstrated ability to work effectively with English language learners, adult learners, and at-opportunity students; Demonstrated ability to design and implement a curriculum that develops the reading, writing, and critical thinking skills of students and to use culturally responsive and inclusive perspectives; Demonstrated ability to use a variety of teaching and assessment strategies to promote and evaluate student learning; Demonstrated interest in the scholarship of teaching and learning.
