Position Overview
Power your Future with Qualus as a Telecommunications Engineer! As a Telecommunications Engineer, you will design and troubleshoot telecommunications and network communications systems in the Power/Utility Industry.
Responsibilities
- Research and create engineering designs of complex telecommunications solutions for the Power/Utility Industry.
- Providing and programming telecommunications or network equipment, including microwave radios, fiber optic terminals, multiplexers, and network switches.
- Specify and ordering carrier services from telecommunications providers and phone companies.
- Create designs, networking diagrams, implementing complex network programming on phone systems and network systems, Bill of Materials (BOM), make budget recommendations for construction projects and future system requirements.
- Serve as project manager, involving cross-functional teams and challenging requirements, on major projects or system upgrades, developing and maintaining detailed project plans and documentation for programs
- Analyze system problems and implement solutions.
- Multitask and manage multiple projects under tight deadlines.
- Ability to complete detailed design of telecommunications systems and providing scoping for highly complex projects
- Support compliance efforts in support of all WECC, FERC, and NERC requirements pertaining to electronic communications.
- Write job specifications and equipment specifications for contract jobs.
- Lead systems capacity planning to manage technology changes and growth and make recommendations for approval by senior management.
- Provide technical leadership to staff.
- Perform any additional responsibilities as requested or assigned.
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE), Computer Science, Information Technology of related field
- 3-5 years of experience in telecommunications or networking.
- 3-5 years of experience in researching and designing complex telecommunication solutions.
- Ability to document design of systems using computer aided drafting program or equivalent software.
- Knowledge of trunking, circuit design, SONET, TDM, T1's, ISDN, Frame Relay, voicemail, PBX administration, multiplexing, optical transmission, scripting, ATM microwave, and radio communications.
- Knowledge of large call center operational requirements, information technology terms, equipment, systems, functions and major vendors.
- Strong sense of methodology, process, and metrics in managing functions and handling multiple projects.
- Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills conducive to team development.
- Understanding of Electrical Utility operations and circuit requirements
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
