The RD is responsible for resident orientation to community living; resident counseling; policy enforcement and adjudication; day and night on-site crisis response; student programming; student staff recruitment, selection, training and evaluation; housing management, and special projects. The RD provides a variety of support services to the residential students and assists with the management of the housing program. The residential facilities include residence halls, apartments, and family housing. Please Note: This is a four (4) year contract appointment with the possibility to be extended for one (1) additional year for a maximum total of five (5) years. Additionally, this position has multiple openings. The salary range for the Resident Director position is $54,200 - $93,200 annually. The expected pay scale for this position is up to $55,000 annually. We base placement within these ranges on the individual's qualifications as they relate to this position. Applicants must have current work authorization when accepting a UCR staff position. Currently, we are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa for staff. Requirements: Educational Requirements Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training. Required Master's degree. Preferred Experience Requirements 4 - 7 years of related experience. Required Minimum Requirements Thorough knowledge of advising and counseling techniques. Thorough knowledge of Student Affairs/Student Life specialization. Skills in judgment and decision-making, problem solving, identifying measures of system performance and the actions to improve performance. Abilities in project management, problem identification and reasoning skills. Ability to develop original ideas to solve problems. Knowledge of student conduct administration best practices and ability to independently process and adjudicate student conduct cases. Knowledge, skills & abilities to manage crisis and emergency situations. Preferred Qualifications Strong knowledge of common University-specific computer application programs and knowledge of University and departmental principles and procedures involved in risk assessment and evaluating risks as to likelihood and consequences. Knowledge of University processes and procedures. Demonstrated understanding of student development theories and practices. Monitors student employee performance and provides direction and assistance. Counsels and evaluates student employee performance. Recommends corrective action, hiring, and separation of student employees when appropriate. 20% Provides ongoing transformational advising and development to student leaders participating in student government, co-curricular programs and/or organizations on a wide range of issues. Advises student leaders on complex and sensitive issues. Brings extensive knowledge to a student generated field of interest and supports, guides and mentors students in formulating projects related to those issues. Guides students in interaction with campus leaders and represents students on these issues when appropriate. Coaches student leaders on communication and leadership skills. Advises student leaders through various residential situations, which are both complex and sensitive.
