This will be an academic appointment at the level of Associate/Professor of Clinical Pediatrics. The candidate must hold or be eligible for an Illinois physician license, hold MD/DO or equivalent degree and be BC/BE in Pediatric Gastroenterology. Position Summary The University of Illinois College of Medicine Peoria, Department of Pediatrics is seeking a pediatric gastroenterologist with a track record in healthcare leadership and program development for the position of Division Chief of Pediatric Gastroenterology. Duties & Responsibilities Participate in teaching medical students, residents, and other health care professionals. Develop & conduct clinical and/or basic research in the field of Pediatric Gastroenterology. Perform other duties of a university faculty member including committee assignments, curriculum development, student counseling and administration. Develop a vision for expansion and growth of current clinical services. Provide leadership to support the faculty in the Division of Gastroenterology to achieve excellence in clinical care, teaching, and research. To sustain an existing supportive and collaborative environment for other subspecialists thus facilitating programs that care for high complexity patients. To support quality improvement efforts and safety initiatives within the Division. Provide care for patients with gastrointestinal, liver and nutrition disorders and consultation and support to other services. Collaborate with nursing leadership, dietetic services, psychologists, and other ancillary services to provide high quality, safe, and individualized patient, and family centered care. Perform duties of a university faculty member including committee assignments, curriculum development and administration. Minimum Qualifications MD/DO degree or foreign equivalent. Eligible for licensure in the State of Illinois Board certified/board eligible in Pediatric Gastroenterology Preferred Qualifications Proven leadership credentials and track record of developing clinical programs in pediatric gastroenterology, hepatology, and nutrition. Strong background in clinical/translational research About University of Illinois College of Medicine, Peoria (UICOMP) Department of Pediatrics and OSF Healthcare Children's Hospital of Illinois: UICOMP is one of the three regional campuses of the University of Illinois College of Medicine, one of the largest public medical schools in the country. UICOMP's educational programs include 244 medical students and 300 residents/fellows in 21 different post graduate programs. The Department of Pediatrics is one of the largest departments at UICOMP. In collaboration with the OSF HealthCare Children's Hospital of Illinois, the Department has 19 divisions and over 111 faculty members providing general pediatrics and subspecialty services to the pediatric population in Central Illinois. There are significant opportunities for developing clinical and translational research projects in pediatric neurogastroenterology, motility, aerodigestive, nutrition, EOE and IBD. A close collaboration exists between researchers at UICOM Peoria and Chicago campuses. Dr. Xiao-Di Tan is a funded researcher at UICOM, Chicago and his research focuses on dissecting the complex interaction between intestinal microbes, epithelium, and cells in lamina propria and how it regulates intestinal homeostasis, inflammation, and mucosal regeneration. The Department has a well-established research infrastructure to foster research in artificial intelligence and machine learning applications in pediatric gastrointestinal disorders. A close collaboration exists between Department of Pediatrics, Health4All Center for Health Equity, Chicago ( https://medicine.uic.edu/com-research/aihealth4all/ ) and Jump Simulation Center ( https://www.osfinnovation.org/jump-simulation ). The current research infrastructure within the Department includes a pediatric clinical trial unit, office of research with a dedicated biostatistician, research coordinator support and epidemiologist. There are existing resources through UICOMP and Children's Hospital of Illinois for research funding, quality improvement and innovation in health education research projects. About Children's Hospital of Illinois The primary teaching hospital of UICOMP is Children's Hospital of Illinois, a tertiary care facility serving a 37-county region with a population base of over two million. Children's Hospital of Illinois provides comprehensive services to children, including Level IV NICU and a state-designated Pediatric Critical Care Center. Children's Hospital of Illinois is a major medical facility with 136 beds and a 32-bed critical care unit and the only Level 1 trauma center in Illinois outside of Chicago. Currently there are 6 faculty in the Division of Gastroenterology, and it is expected that the new leader will expand the current clinical service and recruit additional faculty. A dedicated pediatric endoscopy unit and anesthesia support is available. The adult advanced endoscopists works closely with the pediatric group in providing advanced endoscopy services including ERCP and endoscopic ultrasound. A pediatric motility lab has been established with nursing support. The hospital has already approved funding to develop a multidisciplinary intestinal failure program, a pediatric neurogastroenterology and motility programs and there are plans to start a multidisciplinary feeding program. The Division is in the process of hiring a pediatric psychologist. Our IBD program participates in Improve Care Now network and significant support exists for quality and outcomes projects with a dedicated coordinator funded by the Department.
