ARPA-H - Mission Office Commercialization Support Specialist

Amentum is looking for experienced personnel to expand our healthcare technology development support capabilities at the Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (ARPA-H).

Founded in 2022, ARPA-H is a Federal research funding agency that supports transformative biomedical and health breakthroughs - ranging from the molecular to the societal - to provide health solutions for all. ARPA-H advances high-potential, high-impact biomedical and health research that cannot be readily accomplished through traditional research or commercial activity to develop solutions to society's most challenging health problems.

We are interested in individuals who have experience supporting executive-level personnel at a Federal or State agency or major private sector company. Commercialization Specialists provide Front Office support to an ARPA-H Mission Office, regularly interacting with Government leadership - the Office Director, Deputy Director, Assistant Director for Program Management (ADPM), Program Analyst (PA), and technical Program Managers (PMs) - in identifying and developing commercialization and transition strategies and opportunities for technology development programs.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting mission office leadership in structuring programs to support eventual commercialization; assisting with planning, preparing, and implementing policies and strategies for technology commercialization; advising on the commercial market, strategy, business planning, intellectual property, product development, supply chain considerations, and developing market studies
  • Performing technology economic analysis to inform new programs targeting public and private follow-on funding sources
  • Facilitating and organizing commercialization workshops and mentorship programs
  • Identifying pathways for transition of technology to user community, including establishing and maintaining communication and coordinating efforts with potential transition partners (internal and/or external to ARPA-H) to determine their capability needs, and coordinating development of the program to meet transition partner needs
  • Identifying and translating user requirements into specific technology/system research and development objectives; illustrating the benefits of applying the technology/system to equipment users and developers; identifying the commercial utility of new products and technology; defining system architectures and supporting subsystem performance requirements; and generating transition agreements
  • Assisting in the development of Memoranda of Agreement (MOA), Memoranda of Understanding (MOU), Technology Transition Agreements (TTA) and other documentation that will aid in the transition of ARPA-H technology
  • Investigate areas of opportunity, establish best practices, and identify methods (i.e., tradeshows, conferences, publications) to promote ARPA-H to the research community
Minimum Requirements:
  • Master's degree in information design or a related field and eleven (11) years relevant experience - OR -
PhD in biophysics or related field with seven (7) years relevant experience
  • Experience that includes a combination of a technology/research and business backgrounds
  • The demonstrated professionalism, maturity, sound judgement, and excellent communication and interpersonal skills necessary for daily interactions with executive-level audiences in a dynamic, high-visibility Front Office environment
  • Ability to work independently or in a team setting as circumstances dictate
Highly Desired Attributes:
  • Experience in design and user-centered product development, engagement, and transition of health care solutions
  • Experience in startup/entrepreneurial business and in areas such as market research, financial analysis, product development and/or supply chain/manufacturing
  • Strong technical background in engineering, technology development, or scientific research
  • ARPA-H experience
  • Other ARPA agency (DARPA, IARPA, ARPA-E, etc.) experience
  • National Institute of Health (NIH), Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), or Department of Defense (DoD) experience
Hybrid and telework options are likely but residence within Washington, DC metropolitan area is desired.
