Health Systems Science Research Faculty | Kaiser Permanente (School of Medicine) - Military Veterans

at HERC - Southern California

Job Summary:

The Department of Health Systems Science (HSS) at the Kaiser Permanente Bernard J. Tyson School of Medicine (KPSOM) seeks to expand our research capacity, particularly in three priority areas of inquiry: learning health systems (including embedded research and implementation and improvement science), health information technology (including clinical informatics and healthcare applications of artificial intelligence), and health equity (including health disparities and social and structural drivers of health). Applications will be considered for faculty positions at the Instructor, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, and Professor levels. We aim to recruit faculty members who share our enthusiasm for building a research enterprise that emphasizes innovation and excellence within a new and growing school of medicine that highly values inclusion and diversity. Our conceptualization of the health system extends into the community and embraces engaged and partnered approaches.

The HSS mission includes: 1) the pursuit of a broad scholarship agenda that will improve health, health care, and health equity through systems transformation and redesign; and 2) delivery of an innovative foundational curriculum in four domains: community and population health, health care and social systems, quality and safety, and research methods to inform evidence-based clinical practice. While this recruitment prioritizes hiring faculty members to support the Departments scholarship mission, faculty will also be expected to contribute significantly to student teaching and research mentorship. Essential Responsibilities:

Develop and/or expand a program of externally funded research in one or more of the core domains of learning health systems, health information technology, or health equity.

Support and serve as a mentor to KPSOM students as they pursue both required and ancillary scholarly projects.

Establish productive collaborations with current HSS faculty members in one or more of the above areas of thematic interest.

Identify opportunities to partner with health system leaders to address health system priorities using diverse research methods and approaches.

Engage in scholarly activities in clinical and community settings, including health services and health-related social sciences research; improvement and implementation research; and health-related program and policy development and evaluation.

Serve as presenters and facilitators in large, medium, and small group learning sessions.

Contribute to ongoing development, revision, and refinement of the HSS curriculum.

Scholarly and pedagogical duties, expectations, and resources will be individually developed based on evolving faculty interests, skills, departmental priorities, and needs.
