Job Description:

Position Summary:

This role is responsible to manage, develop and implement safety, health and environmental management programs to ensure compliance with applicable safety and environmental rules, laws and regulations. Ensure continuous improvement of company's safety culture and reduction of accidental losses impact on the operational goals of the company.

Here's what you'll do:


  • Manage, develop and implement safety, health and environmental management programs, policies and procedures within the company.


  • Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state and local safety and environmental rules, laws and regulations and licensing requirements, work with appropriate agencies when necessary. This may include, but is not limited to: Environmental aspects such as risk management plans (RMP), emissions inventory, chemical facility rules, irrigation and water quality and requirements, pollution reduction/control/prevention, Homeland Security, waste management, recycling programs, hazardous waste and spill prevention control and countermeasures; Safety aspects such as process safety management (PSM), Hazard Communication, OSHA record keeping, all other OSHA programs, etc.


  • Conduct on-site assessments to ensure compliance of policies, procedures and protocols at company locations.


  • Report findings, make recommendations to address potential issues and assist in the development of actionable solutions to address deficiencies; monitor execution of solutions, ensure appropriate corrective action is taken where environmental, health or safety hazards exist, and follow up as necessary.


  • Manage the selection and use of third party environmental/safety professional services needed to support programs, systems or special projects. Identify cost effective service providers, coordinate the negotiation of service agreements/contracts and manage the associated costs. Work with Legal on contracts as necessary.


  • Ensure continuous improvement of company's safety culture and reduction of accidental losses impact on the operational goals of the company.


  • Consult with senior business partners to determine and accomplish company objectives.


  • Optimize and infuse safety awareness and compliance into all business practices through the development and implementation of training programs, communication programs (utilizing existing communication tools and developing new ones as appropriate), and other resources.


  • Develop and track metrics to measure and evaluate results of safety, health and environmental programs.


  • Analyze current and historical data to determine significant negative trends and develop plans to address such.


  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with operations management, and federal, state and local agency contacts as appropriate.


  • Maintain current knowledge of regulatory changes and laws, industry trends and best safety and environmental practices.


  • Communicate new and updated safety and environmental requirements that impact the company and ensure organization regulatory and legal compliance.


  • Manage Safety Specialists, provide direction on goals and objectives in reducing accidents/incidents, develop and implement policies, Procedures, training programs, conduct training, ensure compliance all in an effort to improve safety and environmental.


  • Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed.


Here's what you'll need:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Health & Safety (or related field) orequivalent years of experience in safety and environmental fields.


  • Eight years' experience in safety role, or related field.


  • Two years of supervisory experience.


  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.


  • Must have strong management, organizational and analytical skills.


  • ASP (Associate Safety Professional) or CSP (Certified Safety Professional) certification preferred.


  • Working knowledge of OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration), EPA (Environmental Protection Agency), and DOT (Department of Transportation) regulations.


  • Ability to think critically and react accordingly in emergent and emergency situations.


  • Working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint.


  • Ability to travel up to 25%.

The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate but may be high in distribution settings. Travel requirements vary by assignment.
