The Program Trainer Coordinator, (PTC) will coordinate, develop, maintain, and update all required and supplemental staff training as directed from State of North Carolina (NC) and the National Guard Bureau (NGB). This position will assist the Director with all training requirements as directed from the State NC and the NGB. The STC will identify, request, and manage all course materials for each training subject. The STC will also request any supplemental resources such as training aids, classrooms, and or materials as may be required. The STC will develop and assess methods to evaluate mastery of subjects taught, recommend for or issue/extend certify/re-certify staff members as required.

The salary grade for this position is NC12. State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as, or lower than, their current position. If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity. Based upon these factors, a pay increase MAY result.

About the Tarheel ChalleNGe Academy: The Tarheel ChalleNGe Academy is a quasi-military style residential program for at risk youth 16-18 years of age, and is sponsored by the NC National Guard. The mission of the Academy is to redirect the efforts of young adults who have had trouble succeeding in the normal high school environment and give them the skills to become productive citizens in their communities.

To qualify for this position, applicants must document on the application that they possess ALL of the following:
Experience utilizing Windows and Microsoft Office Suites (Word, PPT, XL, Publisher, Access, and Outlook).
- Experience coordinating, conducting, and evaluating training.
- Experience maintaining and updating a training database/matrix
- Experience in supervisory practices and able to plan, schedule, and supervise training and work of others.
- Must be able to travel overnight.
- Selected individual must be tactful, patient, and must possess superior organizational skills
- Considerable knowledge of training theory, principles, and techniques.
- Considerable knowledge of capabilities and uses of audiovisual aids and other training tools and resources.
- Skills in counseling and relating to others.
- Ability to interpret, apply, and communicate a variety of policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment in assessing training needs, development of objectives, recommending training goals, and evaluating student learning.
- Ability to develop course outlines and lesson plans.
Required to complete the following training provided by TCA: Staff Acclimation Course, Foundations Course, Gang Awareness/Conflict Resolution, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training and Hands Off Trainining; First Aid/CPR (recertify every two years); Per 5 CFR 731, upon appointment, applicant must be able to obtain a favorable suitability and fitness determination from a Tier 1 background investigation conducted by the Office of Personnel Management. Failure to obtain a favorable determination may result in termination of employment. .

Management Preferences:
- Military experience as a Training NCO or Operations Sergeant.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor's degree from an appropriately accredited institution and:
- One year of experience in a progressive training or teaching role
- OR one year of experience in a human service, counseling, or training program in the subject matter specified;
Or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
