Database and Access Administrator | The New School - Military Veterans

The Database and Access Administrator, reporting to the Assistant Provost for Student and Academic Systems (SAS) will be a member of a cross-unit team developed to provide the foundation for a more integrated vision of institutional reporting and analytics through Institutional Research, Analytics, and Decision Support (IRADS). The successful individual will have a proven track record of project implementation and collaboration across technical teams and end-users, have expertise in the administration of Tableau Server, and familiarity with relational databases.  The New School is strongly committed to diversity and inclusion in the workplace and particularly seeks applications from members of underrepresented groups, as well as candidates who share this commitment.  RESPONSIBILITIES Works collaboratively with IRADS and liaising with IT to carry out upgrades according to the needs and priorities of the functional areas, ensuring thorough test plans are implemented as appropriate. Performs day-to-day maintenance and configuration of Tableau Server. In collaboration with IRADS, re-design and maintain user roles and access to Tableau. Working collaboratively with the Senior PL/SQL Developer and others in IRADS and colleagues in IT, maintains and creates IRDS tables and views in specified instances of The New Schools Oracle databases.  Monitors performance and troubleshoot issues related IRADS Oracle tables and views. Monitors performance and troubleshoot issues related to Tableau. Works effectively within a group setting in areas of data and database management, informing efficient and appropriate data access and security. Documents processes with documentation artifacts including data dictionaries, standard operating procedures and analysis methodology descriptions.  Understands and stays current on new functionality and features within Oracle, Tableau, and other data systems and pro-actively cultivates the positive inter-office relationships with data stewards in such areas to permit seamless collaborative efforts. Works closely with IRADS to ensure smooth access to data from all SAS systems, including Canvas, Slate, Starfish, etc., including new implementations. Pursues opportunities to enhance expertise in the intersection of data sciences, institutional research, higher education, analytics, and information technology to keep skills/expertise current. Special projects and other related duties as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS A bachelor's degree in computer science, data analytics, data visualization, or a related quantitative field, and two years of experience with Tableau server, OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Understanding of SQL. Experience with relational database management systems such as, Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, including creating tables, views, and indexes. Proven experience with Tableau. Experience managing mid-size collaborative projects and strong organizational skill. Strong verbal, written, and data communication skills. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Experience with data and reporting in an institution of higher education. Experience building Oracle tables and/or managing access. WORK MODE Hybrid - Employees hired for this position primarily work remotely with the occasional on-campus presence required with advanced notice.
