Admission Counselor, Undergraduate Admission | The New School - Military Veterans

The New School was founded by forward-thinking educators in 1919 to defy the intellectual constraints of a traditional college education. We are seeking an Undergraduate Admission Counselor to support recruitment, admission, and yield efforts that reflect the Universitys commitment to diversity, access, and inclusivity.   The Undergraduate Admission Counselor will represent The New Schools undergraduate programs, across Parsons School of Design, Eugene Lang College of Liberal Arts, the Bachelors Program for Adults and Transfer Students, and the College of Performing Arts, in a full range of recruitment activities, interviews, special events and related tasks on- and off-campus. To achieve enrollment goals, the successful individual will work closely with the undergraduate admission team, faculty, administrators, and current and prospective students. This position will assist in all administrative and planning phases of the recruitment/admissions process.    The New School is strongly committed to diversity and inclusion in the workplace and particularly seeks applications from members of underrepresented groups, as well as candidates who share this commitment. RESPONSIBILITIES Counsel and advise high school, community college, and adult students on academic programs at The New School, the undergraduate admission process and requirements, and provide basic financial aid and scholarship information. Conduct group information sessions - both virtual, on-campus, and on the road. Travel throughout the United States to represent The New School at high schools, community colleges, college fairs, public and service organizations. Manage a domestic recruitment territory and develop relationships with key influencers. Manage class visits for prospective students - including communications to students, scheduling, curation of information, and follow-up to create, maintain, and continuously evaluate our offerings to ensure a meaningful and positive experience to students. Assist the Director of Admission with the management of the applicant pool. Review of admission applications and credentials to determine eligibility for admission.  Partner with Academic Program Office, Academic Advising, and Registrar to support the onboarding of new students, contribute to the transfer credit review process.  Serve as the Transfer teams point person to collaborate regularly with Academic Advising to connect prospective students and admitted students to resources in the program and support a successful transition returning to college. Monitor and manage the dedicated email accounts for this team. Train and supervise undergraduate student workers to communicate with prospective students and applicants via email and phone. Other duties and projects as assigned by the Director of Admission. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Bachelors degree required. Experience in undergraduate and graduate admissions. Demonstrated computer knowledge/skills such in MS Office and Google Suite. Ability to interact well with a diverse group of faculty, staff, and students. Strong communication and organizational skills. Excellent customer service skills. Supervisory experience.  Flexibility within an evolving work environment. Ability to travel with a valid drivers license. Willingness to work occasional evening and weekend hours. Demonstrated ability to prioritize multiple time-sensitive tasks with high attention to detail. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS 1-2 years experience working in admissions, higher education, or with an organization focused on adult learning/education. Experience in design, art, and performing arts environment, including the ability to relate well to artist/practitioner faculty. Interest in working with an adult student population. WORK MODE Hybrid/Split - Employees hired for this position have regularly scheduled, consistent percentage of time on campus (ex 1-4x/week) and also work some of the time remotely. #LI-HYBRID SALARY RANGE $62,400 - $65,000 We look forward to receiving your application!
