The Jule Collins Smith Museum of Fine Art is looking for Auburn University students for the position of Facility and Grounds Assistants to help maintain the appearance and operations of the Museum building and property by performing various tasks to ensure the upkeep and smooth operation of its buildings and grounds. Though physical labor will be a substantial requirement for this position, assistants also will warmly engage with staff and visitors, enjoy working cooperatively with others, possesses excellent communication and customer service skills, and have exceptional organizational skills and an eye for detail, always representing the museum and Auburn University in a professional and cheerful manner.

Essential Functions

Typical day-to-day duties include:
  • Maintain a high level of curb appeal at the street and walkway entrance areas, reporting any concerns that need special attention
  • Remove litter, debris, leaves, and weeds from the Museum grounds, including the pond, fountains, walkways, driveway, parking lots and other areas as necessary
  • Complete simple maintenance tasks such as paint touch-ups or spot cleaning
  • Perform lifting and moving of furniture, boxes and other items in staff offices, loading dock and other areas of the Museum
  • Assist on other projects as assigned.



The hours for the position are: 8:00 am - 4:30 pm (Thursdays until 8:00 pm)

Two to three shifts per week (approximately 10 hours per week), with a mix of weekday options available

Minimum Qualifications
  • Undergraduate student, in good standing at Auburn University, graduating after August 2024

    Auburn University was established in 1856 as the East Alabama Male College, 20 years after the city of Auburn's founding. In 1872, under the Morrill Act, the school became the first land-grant college in the South and was renamed the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Alabama. In 1899 the name again was changed, to the Alabama Polytechnic Institute. Finally, in 1960 the name of the school was changed to Auburn University, a title more in keeping with its location, and expressing the varied academic programs and larger curriculum of a major university.

    Today, Auburn is one of the few universities to carry the torch as a land, sea and space grant university. Our fall 2014 semester enrollment was 25,912. Our students can choose from more than 140 degree options in 13 schools and colleges at the undergraduate, graduate and professional levels.
