Specialist, Certification - Military Veterans

Under a direct supervisor, performs work involving conventional surveying practices and Plan Review/Approval related only to National Regulations/Standards which is considered as non-Classed related.

No Classed activities shall be performed.

Primary function is to effectively examine and report on vessels and other marine structures during and after construction relative to compliance with the applicable requirements for maintaining Owner Properties in compliance with National Regulations/Standards.

What You Will Do

  • Acts as a professional specialist for the organization in the application of National Regulations/Standards.
  • Performs routine surveys on behalf of Government or Flag Administration for Non-Classed related Vessels, Marine Structures & equipment for compliance with National Regulations/Standards.
  • Prepares technically accurate and timely reports of work performed.
  • Engages in contact with clients to resolve problems within area of expertise.
  • Maintains survey files as well as plans in an orderly and up-to-date manner in area of responsibility.
  • Present Survey budget's estimation per client's request.
  • Review/Approve drawings and plans required by National Regulations/Standards.
  • Issue Construction License per National Regulations/Standards.
  • Implements and maintains ABS Quality System requirements relative to responsibilities after undergoing ABS Quality System training.
Education and Experience
  • Qualifications from a tertiary institution within a relevant field of technology, engineering or physical science (minimum two (2) years program).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Proficiency in the English language commensurate with the scope of statutory certification and services and, before assignment, with their future work.
  • Ability to develop a working knowledge of ABS Rules, Guides, statutory regulations, and related instructions, as well as the ABS Employee Safety Policy.
  • Knowledge of computer programs or software packages related to job responsibilities.
  • Ability to communicate, orally and in writing, pertinent information relative to assigned area of technical expertise.
  • Responsiveness to customers.
  • Ability to work well with others.
  • Obtain a working knowledge of the ABS Health, Safety, Quality, and Environmental Management Systems.
  • Proficiency in the English language.
  • Ability to reference structural plans and to have a good understanding of shipbuilding practices and ship operations.
  • Knowledge of ships' engineering systems and machinery.
  • Ability to analyze problems and propose solutions.
  • An entry level position for new graduates and/or those candidates with zero (0) to five (5) years' experience in the marine industry.
Reporting Relationships:

The incumbent reports to a Supervisor, Assistant Manager, Manager, or above. This position does not have any direct reports.
