Lecturer Honors College HNRS-3747L

Position:  Towson University’s Honors College invites applicants for a nine-month appointment at the rank of lecturer in the Honors College.  Employment to begin August 2024 for the 2024-2025 academic year.  The appointment is renewable.

Qualifications:  M.A or M.S.in the candidate’s field required.  Applicants who have completed or are pursuing a PhD at the time of application will receive preference. Candidates must be able to teach undergraduate writing and research in an interdisciplinary context to academically advanced students. The successful candidate will also design and teach introductory and upper-level interdisciplinary classes with a preferred focus on science, climate change, and/or environmental issues, though other areas of expertise are welcomed. Must be able to teach in an interactive, discussion-based course format.

Candidates must possess a record of undergraduate teaching excellence, be committed to quality instruction and pedagogical innovation, be able to teach in an interdisciplinary context, and be sensitive to the educational needs of a culturally diverse urban population. Honors courses are limited to 20 students and operate in a seminar-style format focused on developing critical thinking.

Responsibilities: The chief responsibilities of the position are to teach a 3-3 load, serve as an Honors academic adviser, and deliver excellent instruction in the following areas: (1) a freshman introductory Honors research and writing course on the theme of water; (2) upper-level courses accessible to students in all majors exploring international, national, and/or local policy relating to contemporary science issues, climate change, and/or the environment.  A successful applicant will possess a strong commitment to excellence in teaching, as well as demonstrate a solid potential for mentoring and advising.

Other responsibilities include advising Honors students and service to the Honors College and Towson University related to the Honors College’s academic goals for its students, including supporting students’ Experiential and Advanced Learning requirements in internships, undergraduate research, and/or service-learning and assistance with admissions reviews. The position is expected to support the Honors College and its students in academic events which will require occasional weekday evenings and weekend days during the academic year.
