Qualifications: SPSY 772 SP Practicum Seminar (1 unit) Thursdays 4:15PM - 5:15 PM First-year School Psychology candidates are provided the opportunity to engage in field- based activities in various areas of professional training. Specifically, candidates are provided with practica experiences in the areas of (a) collaboration and consultation, (b) wellness promotion, (c) counseling and crisis intervention, (d) individual assessment, (e) program planning and evaluation, (f) research and measurement. Practica will occur in supervised school settings and in the accompanying seminars at Saint Marys College, according to specific requirement stated in Standard 15 of the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CCTC). In the second semester of the first year, a candidate will begin a School Psychology Practica and Seminar (COUN 527). Within the first few weeks of the semester a 50 hour placement in a school setting under appropriate supervision will commence. Students will act as participant observers of the many processes of both general and special education as it is implemented in schools. To this end, School Psychology candidates will 'shadow' a school counselor or school psychologist, observe in classrooms, attend a Student Study Team or Response to Intervention Team meeting, attend an IEP and 504 meeting, observe assessment and identification procedures, and collaborate and consult with a teacher. A weekly 1 hour seminar is designed to support the School Psychology candidates school-based experience as well as personal, and professional development. Required Qualifications: Candidates must have M.S., M.A., or Ph.D. in School Psychology and be a credentialed school psychologist or school counselor in the state of California with a minimum of 3 years experience as a practicing school psychologist or school counselor. Faculty who teach any PPS specialization course will need to have worked in prek-12 school settings in the last three years. Preferred Qualifications: A Ph.D. in School Psychology is highly desirable. A successful record of teaching experience at the graduate level. Current license in Marriage & Family Therapy, Professional Clinical Counseling, Educational Psychology, or Psychology and/or National Certification in School Psychology from the National Association of School Psychologists. A demonstrated commitment to teaching excellence, multicultural/international competence, social justice, clinical expertise, and familiarity with counseling & psychological theory and practice. At least 5 years of school team management experience that includes the coordination of care for students with mental health, behavioral, or academic needs.
