Part-Time Lecturer in History | New York University - Military Veterans

New York University (NYU) Berlin is seeking a part-time lecturer to teach a course on Berlin's modern history in the Spring 2025 semester. This interdisciplinary class should provide a survey of the city's modern history in terms of social, cultural and political developments, including how these developments can be seen while exploring the city, while simultaneously examining how these have contributed to changes at the national, regional, and international levels. Readings and lectures will be supplemented with walking tours of Berlin and its museums, to look at traces of historical, social and cultural change in situ. Critically examining how race has been a contributing factor to Berlin's modern history and development is instrumental to this course. Furthermore, the lecturer is expected to incorporate the use of artificial intelligence in their teaching and assessments, where appropriate - always together with critical evaluation of its use. The course is taught in English and meets once per week for 3 hours. The Spring term runs from January 16 to May 10, 2025, with a week-long break from March 13-19. Candidates should have a track record of academic publications in the field and be passionate about teaching a very diverse cohort of undergraduate students. As the course is open to students from any major, the course content and pedagogy should ensure accessibility for a variety of students. Fluency in English and experience teaching in English. German work-permit and tax number at the time of application, covering the entire period of the employment. Preference will be given to candidates who have been doctoral students or postdoctoral fellows in the US and/or have international teaching experience.
