Temporary Opportunities - Dining Service - Military Veterans

The Department of Dining Service at Saint John's University (SJU) invites applications for multiple part-time, temporary positions within our Resident Dining and Catering areas. Flexible and varied hours are offered with each position.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following for each position:

Food Service Associate:

  • Assist and serve students from SJU and CSB in our resident dining facilities.
  • Serve as a service associate to our events and catering staff in preparing and serving catering and service functions at SJU.
Sanitation Associate - Dish:
  • Work as a team member in the dish room to provide clean and sanitary dishes, utensils, pans, pots, and dishware for the customers of Dining Service.
  • Perform custodial duties including cleaning, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming and other projects as assigned by supervisors.
  • Skills gained/used from this position will include interpersonal communication, teamwork, flexibility, dependability and customer service.
Food Production:
  • Assist in preparation and production of all menu items for day-to-day operations
  • Provide quality foods to service areas and catering events
  • Practice sanitation and safety procedures


Cashier
  • Handle cash and punch/flex transactions, receive and process payments, process credit and debit card transactions
  • Assist in opening and closing of Sexton Commons retail location
  • Examine inventory
  • Provide customer service
  • Assist in maintenance and retail displays, stock merchandise
  • Perform necessary audits of cash intake and cash drawers


Food Service Associate:
  • High School education.
  • Must be at least 16 years old.
  • Previous work history or experience in customer service positions, ideally in the food service industry preferred.
  • Demonstrated customer service skills, a service attitude and willingness to help others would be beneficial in this role.
  • Capable of lifting up to 40 pounds or less, with or without reasonable accommodations.
  • Punctual and service-oriented.
  • Professional demeanor to represent the staff and services at Saint John's University.
  • Availability to work rotating shifts and overtime as requested - including regular evening and weekend assignments.
Sanitation Associate - Dish:
  • Must be at least 16 years old.
  • On the job training is provided.
  • Previous experience in food service is helpful but not required.
  • Capable of lifting up to 40 pounds or less, with or without reasonable accommodations.
Food Production:
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Previous service experience
  • Capable of lifting up to 40 pounds or less, with or without reasonable accommodations and perform essential functions of job such as lifting, walking and standing.
Cashier - Sexton Commons
  • High School education.
  • Must be at least 16 years old.
  • Customer service, related experience.
  • Cashier experience, cash handling experience preferred.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented and highly observant.
  • Precise accuracy with cash handling and money transactions.
