Responsible for the operation of high pressure boilers, steam turbines, centrifugal chillers and auxiliary equipment at University central heating and cooling plants. Position is responsible for ensuring the safe operation of Utility Plant equipment, tools, and machinery. Depending upon the position hired for, will supervise, perform, and/or assist in performing preventative maintenance and other light maintenance duties such as adjusting, cleaning, and painting as needed to maintain and repair utility plant equipment and facilities. Must be able to obtain the appropriate National Institute for the Uniform Licensing of Power Engineers ( NIULPE ), National Association of Power Engineers ( NAPE ), or other approved equivalent license for the position hired for within one year of employment. Must complete the UNL core training requirements for the position hired for within six months of appointment. Must be available by telephone to address work related issues and may be required to perform work in addition to and outside of the normal scheduled shift 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. This may include emergency situations, coverage of shifts, or other operational needs, either on short notice or with advance notice. Be able to read and understand operating manuals and perform basic mathematical computations. The ability to read, understand, and follow safety procedures. Knowledge and understanding of windows-based software for word processing, spreadsheets, data entry, and email. Must have a valid driver's license and meet University driver eligibility requirement. Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience preferably in Energy Generation Operations or equivalent area. Progressively responsible experience as a Stationary Engineer or Utility Operator in a comparable plant or related facility operating high pressure boilers, turbines, and related equipment and experience with centrifugal chillers. Experience as a supervisor or lead worker. Experience performing industrial equipment maintenance or preventative maintenance. Certified in Method 9 and 22 for evaluating visible emissions. NIULPE 3rd Class License or NAPE 2nd Class License. First Aid, CPR , and AED training and certification.Universal class EPA certification for handling refrigerants.
