Materials Engineer - Military Veterans

A Snapshot of Your Day:
The Materials Engineer is a member of the Manufacturing
Support team within the Turbine Design Department. The purpose of this team is to support the
development of new turbine components during design and process qualification
and to disposition manufacturing non-conformances of production hardware. An important role of this position is to help
implement and industrialize new casting and/or materials technologies from
technology development into the manufacturing environment in collaboration with
internal and external manufacturing and sourcing organizations. This position is a central engineering
interface between turbine design and turbine manufacturing organizations. You work closely with both departments and
internal and external vendors to develop manufacturable designs during
component design phase, develop and approve proper manufacturing processes to
manufacture components, and address production issues during serial production.
How You’ll Make an Impact:
- Support casting technology industrialization
into the casting supply base. - Conduct and support casting and other process
qualifications of turbine hot gas path components. - Evaluate in-process manufacturing data with
respect to design intent. - Ensure new components follow the principles of
design for manufacturing. - Draft and revise specifications and product
definition as well as design for manufacturing philosophies. - Support production issue resolution and quality
and cost improvement initiatives.
What You Bring:
- Master’s or Bachelor's degree in material
engineering, process engineering, mechanical engineering or comparable
qualification. - 3+ years of professional experience in the field
of investment casting processes and/or metallurgy of high temperature
materials. - Experience with manufacturing processes utilized
in gas turbine manufacturing such as investment casting, EDM and conventional
machining, and welding and joining processes. - In-depth knowledge of process and properties of
investment casting and superalloys. - Prior knowledge of gas turbine hot gas path components,
i.e., materials or manufacturing. - Business travel of up to 25% required.
- Highly motivated individual acting as a role
model in motivating others, adhering to safety guidelines, and performing
assigned tasks in an efficient and timely manner. - Excellent written and verbal communication
skills. - Siemens Energy employees with current visa sponsorship may be eligible
for internal transfers.

turbine hot gas path component manufacturing together with design engineering
and supply chain management at internal and external global suppliers.
