Network Engineer - Military Veterans

Responsibilities & Qualifications

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Strategically manage and guide the network operations for the Brigade and Battalion Headquarters, ensuring compliance with DoD and Army network policies.
• Maintain an active role in documenting network requests and approvals, and prepare DISA Cloud Access Point (CAP) packages for Defense Switched Network (DSN)/Voice systems.
• Coordinate with Cybersecurity personnel to ensure network diagrams are updated for voice and data networks, and ensure standards compliance for network and information systems configuration.
• Perform data entry and run inquiries for Information Systems Security Program (ISSP), enterprise Mission Assurance Support Service (eMASS), and Enterprise Reporting Service (ERS).
• Provide Information Assurance recommendations for information systems and network projects in accordance with DoD, CENTCOM, and U.S. Army regulations.
• Review and compile vulnerability or configuration status reports, provide network status briefs, and support the Information System Security Manager (ISSM).
• Ensure the proper application of Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs) and maintain thorough documentation of all network processes and approvals.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• 
  Security Clearance: Must possess an active SECRET clearance.
• 
  Citizenship: Must be a US citizen.
• 
  Certifications: Information Assurance Management (IAM) level II certification as per DoD 8570 requirements, and IAT level II certification.
• 
  Education and Experience: Bachelor's Degree with 5-7 years of relevant experience; Master's Degree with 3-5 years of relevant experience; PhD with 0-2 years of relevant experience.

ADDITIONAL DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• 
  Advanced Degrees and Certifications:
  • Advanced degree (Master's or Ph.D.) in Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related field.
  • Additional certifications relevant to network management, such as Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) or Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP).

  Specialized Experience:
  • Over ten years of network management experience specifically in defense or military environments, demonstrating a deeper understanding of the unique challenges and requirements of these sectors.
  • Experience with Army network software systems and tools, such as RMF, DISA, and STIGs.

  • Demonstrated leadership in multidisciplinary teams, highlighting successful team development, conflict resolution, and project delivery.

Overview

TekSynap seeks a distinguished Network Engineer to lead our team in providing unparalleled network support for the 160th Signal Brigade. This crucial position involves managing the comprehensive network operations within the Brigade and Battalion Headquarters, ensuring compliance with DoD and Army network policies and regulations, and maintaining the highest standards of network security and efficiency. As the Network Engineer, you will be responsible for ensuring the proper management of network infrastructure, including MPLS/IP/VPN networks, and maintaining secure and reliable communication systems. You will play a vital role in maintaining the network readiness of the Brigade, coordinating and integrating various network functions to achieve efficient and effective support. Your duties will encompass a broad spectrum of network functions, including maintaining documentation of network requests and approvals, preparing DISA Cloud Access Point (CAP) packages for Defense Switched Network (DSN)/Voice system, and coordinating with Cybersecurity personnel to ensure network diagrams are updated for voice and data networks. You will also be responsible for performing data entry and running inquiries for Information Systems Security Program (ISSP), enterprise Mission Assurance Support Service (eMASS), and Enterprise Reporting Service (ERS). Additionally, you will ensure compliance with network and information systems configuration standards, including routing architecture, traffic engineering, and inter/intra Point of Presence topology.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS

• Location: Multiple, including Headquarters (HQ) 160th Signal Brigade (Camp Arifjan, Kuwait), contractor facilities, approved telework sites as per the Telework Plan, and potentially both within the Continental United States (CONUS) and Outside the Continental United States (OCONUS) for training and customer support as required.
• Type of environment: The work environment will vary based on location, ranging from office settings at HQ 160th Signal Brigade or contractor facilities to remote telework settings, and potentially field environments when travel is required.
• Noise level: (Low, Medium, High) Low to Medium
• Work schedule: The core working hours are established by the 160th Signal Brigade as 0900 through 1500 local time, Monday through Friday. The contractor may allow employees to begin from 0600 through 0900. Full coverage is required from 0600 through 1600 for certain positions, including the Network Engineer. Extended hours or weekend work may be necessary depending on mission requirements.
• Amount of Travel: Travel may be required up to 25% of the time for training and customer support, both CONUS and OCONUS. Travel requirements, including plans, agenda, itinerary, and dates, must be pre-approved by the Government. All travel will be in compliance with the Joint Travel Regulation (JTR). A valid U.S. unrestricted passport is required for OCONUS site support.
