Position Specific Description

The Accountant II will be responsible for the preparation of journal entries, account reconciliations, managing the accounts receivable (AR) process from invoicing to reconciliation, including bad debt reserve, and reporting analytics. This position will also serve as an accounting advisor in support of FPL Energy Services' (FPLES) residential and commercial business lines and initiatives. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of the accounts receivable process and generally accepted accounting principles, demonstrate the ability to complete tasks independently with minimal direction, possess proficiency in accounting systems, be willing to delve into details when necessary, and have the ability to foster productive working relationships across the organization in a positive and collaborative manner.

General Responsibilities:

• Invoicing customers and analyzing AR balance
• Bad debt reserve calculation and month-end AR reconciliation
• Preparation of journal entries in conformity with generally accepted accounting principles including month-end close responsibilities
• Ensure the accuracy and timeliness of monthly and quarterly internal financial reports and analytics
• Perform monthly account variance explanations.
• Adhere to FPLES accounting processes and internal controls
• Oversight of accounting for specific FPLES general ledger accounts across multiple reporting entities
• Follows through on resolving accounting matters as they arise, including researching, analyzing and reporting on issues that affect the company, making recommendations for solutions, and implementing determined courses of action
• Prepares ad hoc analyses and reports as needed
• Project management skills including process improvement

Job Duties & Responsibilities

• Assists in preparing financial reports in a timely manner that are in compliance with GAAP and accurately reflect the financial status of the company
• Keeps abreast of and apply GAAP, SEC regulations, and relative company policies, practices and procedures
• Ensures accounting integrity of corporate financial data through the implementation of appropriate internal controls
• Prepares schedules and journal entries
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned
