Overview

The Data Architect II is responsible for designing and documenting logical and physical Enterprise Data Lakehouse databases and creating the related ETL Design Specifications with supporting documentation. This team member implements data governance based on Enterprise Data Governance standards to support the GM Financial Enterprise Data Strategy across analytical database environments. The Data Architect II participates in cross functional teams to effectively communicate design related activities with a wide range of technical, non-technical, and third-party team members. This team member is also responsible for the publication and distribution of Enterprise data models and related supporting documentation.

Responsibilities

What makes you an ideal candidate?

  • Experience in designing Data Lakehouse architecture with broad knowledge of Data Lakes (unstructured data) and Data Warehouses (structured data)
  • Thorough understanding of data modeling and experience in modeling techniques required such as Relational, Dimensional and Data Vault
  • Moderate to strong working knowledge of ERwin Data Modeling tool
  • Experience with Cloud based Data Warehouse services ( Azure Synapse, Data Bricks Delta Lake, Snow Flake, AWS Redshift) preferred
  • Experience with cloud architecture related to data storage in Azure required, multi cloud solutions such as AWS S3 preferred
  • Design, build, and test cloud architecture to ensure large amounts of data can be transferred and stored efficiently
  • Perform a variety of in-depth data analysis, data modeling and data administration tasks on complicated datasets with potentially complex data integration scenarios
  • Must be able to recognize and identify patterns in data relationships from disparate systems
  • Establish, maintain, adhere to and enforce Enterprise Data Modeling and Data Integration standards
  • Communicate with and/or interview users to plan, develop, improve and maintain moderately complex components of the logical/physical corporate model
  • Work closely with business and IT team members to clarify and refine functional data requirement specifications
  • Develop and present solutions using materials such as data flow diagrams, conceptual diagrams, ER flow diagrams as needed to clarify data model meaning and usage effectively to a wide range of technical and non-technical consumers
  • Provide guidance in the interaction with business users to plan, develop, improve and maintain complex components of the logical/physical
  • Maintain and administer the Corporate Data Model Repository
  • Work closely with administrators and developers resulting in effective data driven solutions
  • Create and document logical data integration strategies for data flows between disparate source/target systems and the Enterprise Data Lakehouse
  • Experience in a large and complex business environment
  • Participate in the proliferation of our Corporate Meta- Data Repository
  • Participate in the implementation of strategic Enterprise Data strategies
  • Drive innovations by keeping current on emerging technology and data trends which may fit GMF needs
  • Experience with Microsoft Power BI preferred

Qualifications

Experience
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor's Degree in related field or equivalent work experience preferred . Master's Degree preferred
  • 3-5 years of Data Modeling required
  • 2-3 years with cloud architecture related to data storage in Azure required, multi-cloud solutions preferred
  • Database/ data store design experience with at least three or more years of experience with cloud technologies such as Microsoft Azure(preferred) or AWS or Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
  • Experience designing, diagramming and documenting patterns for ETL Development and/or other Data projects preferred
  • Experience working within an Enterprise Data Management role including transactional Data , Analytical Data , and Data Governance/ Administration preferred
  • Experience with Oracle/ Oracle Exadata or SQL Server a plus
  • Experience with Cloud based Data services Azure , Data Bricks Delta Lake preferred
  • Experience architecting DevOps automated data pipelines preferred
  • Knowledge of Enterprise Data Pipelines leveraging technologies such as Kafka, Azure Event Hub, Azure Service Bus preferred
  • Experience Architecting solutions for Machine Learning and Advanced Analytics/ Data Science deployments preferred

OUR BUSINESS & OUR HISTORY

GM Financial was founded as AmeriCredit in September 1992 and opened its first branch office in Fort Worth, Texas. On October 1, 2010, AmeriCredit Corp. was acquired by General Motors Company and renamed General Motors Financial Company, Inc. (GM Financial). In 2011, GM Financial acquired FinanciaLinx to serve GM dealers and customers throughout Canada.  In November 2012, GM Financial announced the acquisition of Ally Financial Inc.’s international operations. The majority of those acquisitions were finalized in 2013, with the remaining market, a 35 percent equity interest in a joint venture in China, acquired in January 2015.  In October 2017, GM Financial completed the sale of its European financial subsidiaries and branches as part of General Motors’ sale of the Opel and Vauxhall businesses to Peugeot S.A.

 

GM Financial provides auto finance solutions to 14,000 dealers worldwide, with earning assets of $93 billion at September 30, 2018.
