Tenure Track Assistant Professor: Molecular Medicine Division - Military Veterans

at HERC- Upper MidWest

About the Division of Molecular Medicine
The Department of Medicine's Division of Molecular Medicine consists of faculty members who share the common goal of using molecular approaches to the understanding of human disease. A major theme in the division is the use of mouse models to investigate human diseases. Although the division is research-oriented, individual faculty carry out clinical and teaching activities in the Department of Medicine and in various subspecialties. The division serves as a common interdisciplinary corridor for research-oriented faculty and students in the MD, PhD program.
The division is dedicated to better understanding the molecular and cellular basis of human disease and translating this into new diagnostics and therapeutics. To advance this mission, we are currently seeking applications from outstanding investigators who will be appointed at the rank of Assistant Professor (Tenure-Track).

The Department of Medicine's Division of Molecular Medicine at the University of Minnesota Medical School is seeking to fill a Tenure Track position at the rank of Assistant Professor. This position will work closely with Dr. Peter Crawford, Director of Molecular Medicine and Vice Chair for Research in the Department of Medicine.

Candidates must have completed a doctoral program in the chemical sciences and at least four years of formal post-doctoral training that includes biochemistry, metabolism, and physiology. Ability to independently utilize the University of Minnesota's mass spectrometry resources, primary cell culture, and an understanding of mouse physiology are essential. Translation to human studies is highly desirable. The most competitive candidates will also demonstrate the ability to analyze and publish data gathered as described above: it is expected that the candidate seeks to write peer-reviewed scientific publications and collaborative extramural grant applications. The most competitive candidates will also have experience teaching or mentoring undergraduate and graduate researchers and consulting with other scientists in analytical chemistry and biochemistry, serving as a group leader in her or his environment.

The candidate is also expected to teach and perform research training of medical and graduate students as well as participation in the Department of Medicine's annual research retreat. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and based on the Department of Medicine's faculty compensation plan, which includes incentive pay.
