The Department of Society, Environment and Health Equity at the University of California, Riverside is recruiting for a postdoctoral position to work with a research team on a grant funded by the Department Of Energy, A Humanities-Driven STEM for Student Training in Carbon Capture and Conversion under Dr. Chikako Takeshita. Postdocoral salary is based on experience level. Minimum salary for this position will be $64,480 with an October 1 increase to $66,737. The appointment will begin during summer of 2024 or as soon as possible and will be for two years with the possibility of extension contingent on budget and performance. This opportunity will involve collaboration with a materials science research team studying carbon capture and conversion methodologies using computational chemistry techniques, and will collaborate with Dr. Chikako Takeshita and Dr. Bryan Wong's material science research team to identify humanistic and social issues that intersect with carbon capture and conversion science and technology. The research shall result in co-authored peer-reviewed articles in humanities or social sciences journals. This position is full-time and will require 40 hours of work each week dedicated to the Department of Energy (DOE)-funded project. Remote work, depending on the research agenda, may be permissible. A successful candidate should have a minimum qualification of an M.A. in a humanities or social sciences discipline and be at least ABD at the time of application. A Ph.D. is required at the time of start. Candidates should have scholarly expertise in environmental justice, environmental or energy policy, and/or science and technology studies. Additional knowledge of rare metals mining, net-zero emission approach to climate mitigation, quantum physics, or computational modeling is preferred.
