Who will you be working with?

Vapor Stone Rail Systems is a part of WABTEC Corp and has been in Plattsburgh NY since 1998. We offer a wide range of products and services for trains including HVAC units, Doors, Door systems along with an array of aftermarket parts and services.

How will you make a difference?

As a member of the leadership team at Vapor Stone Rail Systems, you will be responsible for overseeing a team of Production Supervisors along with a team of assemblers.


  • Leadership for all production goals, measures, action plans and events that support the values, mission and business plan of Wabtec; specifically in its goals to deliver key products on-time and to have flexible capacity options that ensure responsiveness to changing market conditions.

  • Responsible for the Production Team's performance to goals in the areas of safety, quality, production, continuous improvement, human development and environmental stewardship.

  • Personal and team compliance with the Company's safety, environmental and personal growth standards.

  • Promote a collaborative environment and effectively communicate to all levels of the organization.

  • Demonstrated ability to develop and execute a production plan that supports the organizations business objectives.


Main responsibilities (Other duties may be assigned, per business needs):


  • Safety: Demonstrates awareness of safety requirements in assigned work areas and wears appropriate PPE for assigned work. Creates a culture that places the utmost importance on safety. Recognizes potential safety risks and resolves with corrective actions or escalates appropriately to ensure safety of assigned teams. Drive the culture for a safe work environment and strong implementation of 5S at the sites. Be a key partner with the EHS Leader.


  • Quality: Be a direct partner with the Quality team. As the Production manager you will be responsible for the plant activities to produce finished goods that meet WABTEC quality standards, by achieving and implementing the manufacturing processes, work closely with the Quality, Engineering, Methods, and Projects departments.


  • Production: The Production Manager will be responsible for managing & leading a team of supervisors / employees and implementing strategies to meet production goals to drive business growth. The Production Manager will also define roles and responsibilities for resource allocation, production scheduling and capacity planning alongside the planning department. Responsible for manufacturing KPIs and ensuring manufacturing processes and methods are followed to ensure safety, quality, efficiency, and repeatability. Work closely & collaborate with cross-functional teams, such as supply chain, procurement, planning and quality assurance, to ensure smooth operations. Continuously monitor and improve plant processes to optimize safety, production, efficiency, and quality. Lead daily Gemba meetings with the operations team to ensure communication with other departments for roadblocks identified by manufacturing. Responsible to create and manage the sites operations budget including expenses and headcount. Responsible to drive the identification and implementation of process improvements, capital investments, as well as driving cost savings and operational excellence alongside the manufacturing engineering group. Strong management and focus on SDL and solution driven to help and lead the team to meet the monthly KPI's such as Efficiency, Utilization, OTD and OT.


  • People: Participates in interviewing and candidate selection for open positions. Establishes clear goals and objectives for all assigned employees. Actively develops new skills in team members and manages employee growth. Actively manages assigned employees that are not meeting expectations. Exhibits commitment to stated company values.


  • Environment: Participates in environmentally appropriate workplace maintenance habits, including 5S. Recognizes environmental risks in processes and resolves with corrective actions or escalates to ensure environmental stewardship within the facility.

  • Computer Skills - Proficiency in all Microsoft Office Programs.


EDUCATION:

Bachelor's degree in engineering or relevant field preferred; Equivalent Experience in a manufacturing management field will be considered on a case-by-case basis

EXPERIENCE:


  • Minimum 5 years management experience in a manufacturing environment required.

  • Knowledge of manufacturing and production controls and methodology required.

  • Previous Transit Railroad Industry experience is preferred.


What will your typical day look like?

  • Overseeing a production team of approx. 70 - 100 employees.

  • Working closely with Site Director to meet goals and targets.

  • Managing a 2-shift operations team.

  • Attend management meetings.


What about the physical demands of the job?


  • Sitting in an office setting/computer work

  • Standing, bending, twisting multiple hours per day

  • Ability to lift 40lbs.

  • Wearing PPE including but not limited to hearing protection, hard hat, bump cap cut resistant gloves at various times based on current project.

  • Safety glasses & steel/composite toe shoes are required for entirety of shift.

  • Must successfully pass initial and random drug screenings.

  • May require step stools or ladders.

  • Walking between 2 work sites daily

Our job titles may span more than one career level. The salary range starts at 100k. The actual salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors, such as: training, transferable skills, work experience, education, business needs, market demands, and work location.
