The Assistant Director supports the mission ofOIAby executing defined responsibilities with a focus on program development, training/ facilitation, advising, and administrative and collaborative professional matters. The mission of the Office of Intercultural Affairs (OIA) is to contribute to the creation, influence, and sustainability of a community where the dignity of all people is respected and affirmed.OIAcontributes to the mission of the College by providing leadership and support in the Colleges commitment to diversity, inclusion, and equity.OIAoffers academic, cultural, and personal support to students including students of color and other underrepresented student populations on campus through developing intellectual, social, and leadership skills. Throughout the year,OIA, in collaboration with student groups and other departments, sponsors programs that raise awareness of diversity at Stonehill, in our community, and in our world. This is achieved by educating on various social justice concepts and themes, including but not limited to issues impacting racial and ethnic groups; sexual orientation and identity; socioeconomic experiences; disability and ability; immigration; and educational status.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Programmatic Focus

Coordinate/plan and assess 10-month multicultural programs around specific recognized holidays/months, i.e., LGBTQIA+ Month, Latinx Heritage Month, Black History Month, Asian Pacific Islander Heritage Month, etc.

Coordinate Intercultural Experience Programs I, II, andIII(orientation programs for incoming students).

Coordinate theIGNITEConference on Diversity & Inclusion.

Advise the Diversity Committee in planning and coordinating the DiverCity Festival and the Lead4Justice Festival.

Assist with programming specific to LGBQTIA+ populations including Pride Week, Trans* Day of Remembrance, Pronoun Day, etc.

Oversee the Inclusive Excellent Grant program and work closely with grantees on the implementation of collaborative programs.

Collaborate with the Faculty of Color Association to organize Communities of Color programs throughout the year.

Training & Facilitation Focus

Coordinate summer, fall, and ad hoc training opportunities and provide structure for ongoing engagement of Advocates for a Brighter Stonehill (ABS) student leaders and dialogue group coordinators.

Facilitate training workshops for student leadership groups (e.g., Resident Assistants, Peer Mentors, Admission Ambassadors).

Support and outreach to race-based cultural clubs, including the Black Student Union, Pan Asian Alliance,PRIDE, and Latinx Club.

Facilitate classes and lessons within academic disciplines as requested.

Oversee the Safe Zone Series: multilayered training sessions for faculty, staff, and students and lead the Task Force on LGBTQIA+ Climate, Programming & Education.

Lead prevention and educational efforts for the Bias Incident Prevention and Response Team; coordinate bystander awareness programs, develop additional training programs, lead campus prevention and education campaigns, and create healing spaces. Seek cross-divisional collaborations to ensure bias prevention and response are embedded in all facets of campus life.

Coordinate three book club discussions each year.

Work closely with Student Affairs departments on trainings and workshops.

Teach a section of the First Year Experience in the fall semester.

Administrative/Collaborative Focus

Increase collaborative efforts with other campus entities (e.g. Campus Ministry, Athletics, Academic Programs, etc.) and develop strategic partnerships to increase student retention.

Assist with programs related to recruitment and retention of students of color.

Lead Office efforts to market and promote resources, programs, and opportunities (programs calendar, social media outreach, etc.).

Work closely with faculty, staff, and students to identify cultural resources.

Assist the Director in promoting a positive attitude on campus around intercultural competency and experience.

Serve in an on-call capacity in the Staff on-call rotation.

Professional Focus

Serve as a critical leader in fostering a campus culture in which differences are embraced and work to advance the Colleges mission of diversity and inclusion.

Promote understanding of the Holy Cross values and liberal arts in the Catholic tradition.

Supervise grad interns and practicum students (when applicable).

Coordinate and implement periodic assessments of programs and training opportunities.

Attend conferences and professional development opportunities related to diversity/ international concerns.

Represent the Office of Intercultural Affairs at various college-wide events and meetings (e.g., Orientation Committee, First Year Experience Committee, and various campus events).

Regularly update the office website and social media outlets.

Education and Experience

A Masters Degree in Counseling, Higher Education Administration, Social Work, or a related field is required. Minimum of two years of full-time experience in advising, programming, and training.
