Assistant Professor of Animation and Game Arts Position Purpose New England College Division of Art & Design seeks an Assistant professor for the Animation and Game Arts program with an emphasis and focus in 3D animation and Game Arts. Essential Duties Summary The full-time faculty annual teaching load is six classes over two semesters. Faculty may be asked to teach in more than one department and are expected to hold office hours, participate in committee work, enrollment efforts, and advising. Qualified candidates should have a professional background working in a studio environment with a minimum of three years experience of creative practice in one or more areas: storytelling, animation, game arts, mobile media, virtual reality, augmented reality, multimedia animation, applied games, traditional games, interactive narratives, experimental animation, commercial animation, and film. Ideal applicants are active in seeking out new software, skills, and techniques to integrate into the curriculum. The Animation major offers an extensive program offering a wide-ranging mastery of industry standard skills in animation with an emphasis on storytelling. Required Qualifications Applicant must hold an MFA degree in Animation, Game Arts, Interactive Media, or related field; Three years of college level teaching; Applicants must be knowledgeable in the following software: Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, Adobe Animate, After Effects, Premiere Pro), Autodesk Maya, Arnold Renderer. Preferred but not required; Proficiency with the Autodesk Entertainment suite and Zbrush; Familiarity with technical art pipelines in animation; Experience teaching and/or mentoring in 3D animated productions; Experience with Physical Based Rendering software; Experience with game engines such as Unreal or Unity; Experience with digital fabrication such as 3D printing or CNC machines; A demo reel that demonstrates knowledge and understanding in character acting and animation principles; Interest and/or experience working in emerging technology such as AR and VR; A team player committed to building and maintaining a professional work environment; Strong network of contacts with other professionals, agencies and employers; Knowledge of history and theory of animation, digital media and visual culture.
