Adjunct Faculty (Mathematics) Accepting Applications for Academic Year 2023-2024 Adjunct faculty in the mathematics department play a major role in instruction, working with the full-time faculty to teach a wide range of courses, from developmental offerings through calculus. Using department course outcomes, and recommendations from the dean's office, the mathematics department chair, and the developmental math coordinator, adjunct faculty develop and deliver course content using high quality pedagogical techniques to ensure maximum student success and learning. Responsibilities and Duties: Prepare course syllabi that meet all contractual requirements. Schedule classes to meet for the allotted time on every scheduled meeting day during the semester. Employ effective instructional strategies that promote student learning. Use appropriate assessment tools to accurately measure student understanding. Monitor email communications from students and the college and respond in a timely manner. Provide availability outside of class to meet with and assist students. Meet all deadlines for submission of grades, student participation reports, student grievance responses and other administrative documentation. Additional responsibilities Manage a level of flexibility that holds students accountable and recognizes the challenging work/school/life balance lead by many students at Massasoit. Ensure appropriate training in laboratory safety for laboratory classes. Follow divisional policies to maintain security of laboratory spaces, chemicals and equipment. Work collaboratively with divisional staff. Provide feedback on student progress to advisement and counseling. Focus on the Commonwealth's Equity Agenda by applying related best practices throughout all job functions. THIS POOL IS VALID THROUGH JUNE 30, 2024. Positions may consist of day, night, or weekend courses, and may be in Brockton, Canton, Middleborough, or any other instructional site. Job Requirements: Masters degree or higher in mathematics, or related field, or a Masters degree or higher with an appropriate level of experience and training. Preferred Qualifications: Experience with and understanding of the community college environment Ability to work independently and collaboratively Capable of maintaining academic standards with empathy and honesty Knowledge of and experience using effective pedagogical strategies Familiarity with emporium-style computer-aided instruction such as ALEKS Experience teaching courses that use co-requisite remediation Experience and training in online instruction Additional Information: Position Status: MCCC/MTA position Supervisor: Dean of Science and Mathematics Semester: Academic Year Fall 2023 and Spring 2024 Hours: Variable. Classes typically meet 3 - 5 hours per week. Salary: $1,132 per credit, with additional compensation for courses with a laboratory component, consistent with the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
