Job Summary/Basic Function

The primary responsibility of this position is to provide customer service to Dining Services guests primarily with replenishment of food and beverage items at food stations and preparation of foods such as sandwiches to order. Also assists with cleaning, restocking clean dinnerware at stations, light custodial, as needed. Ensures a safe and clean serving and dining area, adhering to standards of sanitation and safety as established by local, state, and federal health officials.

    • Support the mission and vision of Concordia College and demonstrate the competencies as defined for this position.
    • Assemble and replenish hot and cold food items at food stations, including salad bar, beverages, desserts, made to order sandwiches, salads, etc. Maintain adequate food levels during hours of operation - 35%
    • Restocking and organizing product in dry and cold storage per Dining Services inventory control system. - 10%
    • Assist in training and work with student employees, co-workers, and management in service to our customers and assist with student employee recruitment and retention - 15%
    • Be willing and able to rotate as needed into other assigned duties such as dish room, dining room attendant, or light custodial for other areas in Dining Services - 30%
    • Welcome customers and guests to the dining center and provide customer service to meet the needs and requests of our guests. Other duties as assigned. - 10%

Minimum Qualifications
Qualified Applicants will have a High School Diploma/GED;
  • At least 3-6 months of related experience;
  • Basic employment skills: reading, oral and written communication, and performing simple arithmetic;
  • ServSafe certificate or similar food safety course certificate or pass ServSafe exam within the first year of employment;
  • Requires knowledge of working directly with customers in a food service environment;
  • Incumbent will be physically able to replenish food items including various large, hot, heavy and/or cumbersome containers (hot pans, soup warmers, bagged milk and soda, dish racks, etc.);
  • Customer service skills to work directly with all guests, providing for their needs and requests in a timely an appropriate manner;
  • Skilled in operating and replenishing service equipment such as beverage and condiment dispensers;
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced kitchen environment which include temperature extremes and noise, as well as long periods of standing and walking, and kneeling, reaching, squatting and bending;
  • Communication skills to give directions to student employees and work with other staff to ensure that proper procedures are being followed;
  • Ability to engage our customers with an attitude of willingness and dedication to serve;
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of people;
  • Ability to follow health and sanitation standards by maintaining food temperatures, sanitizing station and continuous hand washing.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of food service equipment such as bag-in-box soda dispensers, soft serve ice cream machine, dishwasher, refrigeration units, etc.
