Admissions Counselor Primary Purpose: The JD Admissions Counselor reports to the Senior Assistant Dean of Admissions and Financial Aid and Diversity Initiatives. The Admissions Counselor performs duties relative to the law school admissions application process including data entry of applicant information, responding to applicant inquiries via telephone, e-mail and in person, as well as distributing information and providing counsel regarding the law school application process generally, and the law school specifically. The admissions counselor works with the Director of Admissions and the Senior Admissions Counselor as well. Essential Functions: Assist with maintaining the JD applicant database (Aces2) including new applications, updates, event management, and communications. Gain a better understanding of the depth of ACES2 and how reporting functionality impacts and influences the admissions funnel. Researching and reaching out to decision makers/stakeholders at organizations, mainly at but not limited to, junior and community colleges to build relationships and further develop a pipeline. Recruits for JD admissions; coordinates and participates in campus recruiting activities such as presentations, career fairs, graduate and professional school fairs, law fairs, conferences and other platforms as needed; works to enhance school brand and reputation through the use of social media platforms and by contributing to the development of collateral materials; assists in the development and support of diversity recruiting efforts across targeted campuses; initiates relationships with niche student organizations and ensures we are achieving our diversity outreach objectives. Explore the opportunities present in the database to fine tune recruiting targets, especially as it relates to the prospect pool using, existing tools and creative thinking. Assist in the planning and execution of recruitment and admissions program, specifically focusing on diversity populations. Gain a better understanding of ACES2 report functionality to analyze recruiting data for various programs and marketing initiatives; is able to capture ROI from targeted outreach events; provides creative and cost-effective ideas to innovate recruitment strategy; is able to utilize campus technology solutions to track and benchmark critical data. As it pertains to recruitment serves as a resource to other departments; represent JD Admissions at activities and events, meetings, committees and conferences. Respond to email inquiries from prospective students, admitted students and other constituencies. Counsel students regarding the admissions process both in the office and at outside events. Arrange class visits for prospective students, applicants and admitted students. Register for all recruitment events, process payments and keep recruitment calendars updated throughout the year. Coordinate with seasonal recruiters and the admissions team to maintain accurate information pre and post event. Coordinate with the Director of Admissions and the Senior Admissions Counselor on pre and post event communications. Responsible for the coordination pre, day of, and post event social media communications for events. Responsible for the maintenance of all faculty, staff, alumni and student participation spreadsheets. Provide general office support: answer phones, schedule tours, manage student worker projects and tasks, manage on campus event rsvps, inventory, process incoming transcripts, updating the database and confirmation of transcript receipt, file and track status of files as well as provide support to recruitment team. Ability and willingness to provide assistance in a cheerful manner and to work effectively and agreeably under pressure. Manage social media efforts for the JD Admissions Office and supplement the law schools general social media efforts, to include engagement with the general public and individuals in all stages of the law school admissions funnel. Engage with staff, faculty and students to solicit assistance in the achievement of specific social media campaigns and the JD Admissions Offices overall social media efforts and goals. Assist the Assistant Dean in developing a McGeorge focused campaign. Coordinate all aspects of the campaign and provide key constituents with training as appropriate. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelors Degree. Three (3) years of experience in a professional office setting. Preferred Qualifications: Three (3) years professional experience in a university or professional school setting. A J.D. or advanced degree may be considered in lieu of years of experience. Strong organizational and time management skills. Familiarity with social media platforms specifically Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. Possess excellent oral and written communication skills. Communication skills must reflect excellent interpersonal skills to interact effectively with prospective applicants, applicants, campus administrative offices and staff related to the admissions process. Ability and willingness to provide assistance in a cheerful manner and to work effectively and agreeably under pressure. Work effectively with minimum supervision. Exercise sound judgment in providing information and answering questions. Correctly interpret and explain policies and procedures. Prepare statistical reports. Exercise diplomacy and deal effectively with people. Handle a variety of inquiries and situations in a calm precise way. Work well with deadlines, maintain complete confidentiality except as to authorized sources. Computer Skills & Technical Skills: Intermediate skills in Word, Excel and database (preferably ACES2). Advanced internet research skills also preferred. Positive attitude, proven ability to work successfully with diverse populations and demonstrated commitment to promote and enhance diversity and inclusion. Experience and sensitivity in working with people of diverse backgrounds and cultures. Demonstrated experience in advancing social justice, equity, and inclusion in a university setting. Ability to engage and integrate culturally responsive practices and knowledge in their work. Sitting for long periods of time. Work Environment/Work Week/Travel: Work performed during standard business hours. Ability to travel, work evenings and weekends, and must be able to drive. Position could require twenty to twenty-five percent (20-25%) travel during peak recruitment time (September - November). Valid drivers license required. Incumbent must also be able to meet the Universitys fleet rules and be eligible to drive for University business. The Universitys insurance carrier reserves the right to exclude applicants based on their driving record. Hiring Range: $19.58 - $32.30 per hour.
