School: Faculty of Arts and Sciences Department/Area: Art, Film, and Visual Studies Position Description: The Department of Art, Film, and Visual Studies ( AFVS ) seeks to appoint a tenure-track Assistant Professor in contemporary filmmaking practice. Applicants should have a terminal degree in a related field (PhD preferred) and experience teaching and advising students in programs at both undergraduate and graduate levels. The successful candidate will teach filmmaking to undergraduates and PhD students throughout the university who incorporate filmmaking into their academic research. Filmmakers whose work explores the boundaries of non-fiction and fiction, experiments with the limits of documentary, traverses lines of cultural difference, or otherwise makes original contributions to contemporary filmmaking are encouraged to apply. AFVS strives toward inclusivity and celebrates the multiple dimensions of diversity that each member of our community offers, including diversity of background, perspective, and lived experience. Applications from filmmakers from underrepresented groups are especially encouraged. The appointment is expected to begin on July 1, 2025.
