Job Summary Under direct supervision, applies knowledge of cleaning techniques and performs a variety of custodial duties required to maintain campus buildings and student housing areas keeping them clean, orderly and safe by using hand tools or equipment. Performs work in accordance with Institute safety standards and regulatory agencies (e.g., OSHA and CDC guidelines). Essential Job Duties In coordination and cooperation with other trades, performs various cleaning support duties that include but are not limited to the following: Performs floor care, including stairwells by sweeping and wet mopping different types of floor surfaces using hand tools or equipment. Performs carpet care and cleans soft porous surfaces by vacuuming and spot cleaning carpets and upholstered furniture using tools or equipment. Cleans and disinfects restrooms, showers, kitchens on a high frequency schedule. Cleans and sanitizes high-traffic areas and regularly touched sources on a high frequency schedule. Washes and cleans walls, blackboards, windows, light covers, glass surfaces and elevators. Dusts horizontal and vertical surfaces, which may require working at heights. Removes trash by hand or cart and moves trash to designated trash disposal areas. Removes recyclables from building interior and breaks down cardboard boxes. Maintains building entrances and immediate area surrounding building of assignment. Climbs ladders, moves/arranges furniture, and lifts/carries items in the course of daily assignments. Responsible for the custody of keys in assigned work area; unlocks entry building doors as directed on security building schedule. Must be able to work overtime, including weekends when required. Performs other duties as assigned. Basic Qualifications Ability to communicate and follow verbal and written instructions. At least six months of experience working as a custodian in a fast-paced educational or commercial environment. Must be familiar with custodial hand tools, floor care equipment, and cleaning techniques. Ability to walk, push, pull, climb, twist, stoop and bend to accomplish job requirements on a consistent/regular basis. Must be able to lift/carry a minimum of 50 lbs. on a regular basis. Must possess, or have the ability to obtain by the date of hire, a valid California Driver's License, and maintain it throughout the course of employment. Must be able to work this assigned work schedule: 5:00AM - 1:30PM, Monday - Friday.
