Sr. Project Engineer

The Blueprint (Role Profile)

Reporting to the Director of R&D for North American Hand Tools, the Sr. Project Engineer will lead a team of Product Development Engineers focused on the research, development, and successful launch of new products to the market.

The Build (Responsibilities)

  • Manage and execute on cost/quality/delivery for new product development projects, current product support, and cost improvement programs.
  • Subject Matter Expert for category of products under your responsibility. Product categories include measuring & layout, storage, and lifting.
  • A key source of knowledge and an authority in the technologies, processes, and cost drivers around product design.
  • Work closely with the Project Management Office team to ensure project schedules are achieved. Actively drive NPD projects with strong sense of urgency and action.
  • Communicate with suppliers, manufacturing engineering and operations to resolve issues and optimize designs for manufacturability and efficiency. Ensure designs are cost efficient and manufacturable.
  • Interact directly with our internal business units and global integrated supply chain teams to effectively contribute to new product development and support of quality, reliability, and cost reduction projects

The Toolbox (Qualifications)
  • B.S. degree Engineering from an ABET accredited institution.
  • 10+ years experience and knowledge in part design, material selection, processing, tooling design, failure analysis, and testing.
  • Preferred 3+ years experience leading engineers with a proven track record of successful product launches.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to collaborate with domestic and international cross-functional associates.
  • Innovative thinker, with a drive for continuous improvement of self, team and processes.
  • Experience in executing complex problem solving techniques related to technical issues.
  • Good instincts and sound judgment for mechanical and structural design.
  • Excellent analytical skills, ability to plan, organize, and implement multiple concurrent tasks.
  • Experience with CAD software - CREO, SolidWorks, Inventor, etc. CREO is preferred.
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing and Design for Six Sigma a plus.
  • Familiar with fits & finishes and GD&T.
  • Familiarity with PPAP, DFM/A, DVP&R, DFMEA and PFMEA.
